New spring vogue
is for tall girls
If you're tall, and if you like the
idea of making a spring suit extra
casual, wear a cape. College girls
started this current cape fashion,
you know, for they are the people
who sling a coat around their
shoulders to resemble a cape.
Tailors have begun now to put
loops inside the coats to hold them
on when they are worn as capes.
But now capes, the real thing,
have hit the top, and variety, prac
ticality, and versatility are a few
of their virtues. Casual, semi
tailored capes are most popular
and most useful because they can
be worn with almost anything, and
will take the place of the top coat
worn in years before over suits
and tailored dresses. The standard
fleecy topcoat is also replaced this
spring with beige, bright red, or
green fleece capes, which are ideal
for all-around knock-about wear.
Three-piece suits are in again
too, and, by the substitution of a
cape instead of the original three
quarter top coat, are made even
more wearable for those occasions
when you want to look smart but
not over dressed. Then, of course,
if you are like most coeds, you will
want to "mix 'em" and wear the
cape with another suit or with a
casual shirt-waist dress.
Then there are girls who want
to be feminine, and who shy away
from conventional casual clothes.
They should select a fine twill cape
of a pastel shade or a color to
match the frilly dress with which
they will wear it. A few capes
have small fur collars and these
too, will help to attain that friv
olously dressed-up look.
For formal wear, a navy cape
of light-weight material, with
corded or braided trimming, and

to light gabardine. An intermedi
ate shade of the same material
will probably replace the popular
neutral tone.

emphasize new colors
Tall, blonde Betty Mueller, Alpha Chi's entrant in the best-dressed
girl contest, leaves Magee s in an outfit which falls into that great
medium "casual class" which includes the majority of new spring
things. The dusky rose shirtwaist dress is worn with a light plaid,
predominantly blue, wool jacket. Betty wears a light blue felt hat,
beige shoes, and carries a beige purse and shorty gloves. Thrown
over her arm in casual fashion is a plaid full length coat.
