No more dreaming
The best nows this university has had for a long time was the announce
ment that the board of regents had definitely decided to use the residue of
the Don h. Iovc estate for a new library.
After wrangling with the legislature and arousing student interest, at
times to fever pitch, throughout the past three years, the university finally
may rest its weary body. Now, all we have to do is wait
We're deeply appreciative and humbly grateful to Mr. Love, whose be
quests in the past alone were enough to earn him the undying gratitude of
the university. We're sorry he is not living to see the fruits of his generosity.
The fight has not been in vain. The legislature couldn't satisfy our re
quests, not out of selfishness or disinclination, but because of necessity and
economic expediency. We thank it for the consideration and time it gave
to the study of the problem. It did realize our need.

Dear
WHAT PRICE SCHOOL SPIRIT?
Two oavs before the football
team departed for it's game with
Minnesota, members of the Daily
Xebra-skan business staff solicited
fraternity and sorority houses to
give the team a senJoff to let them
know that they were behind the
team. Each house was charged S2
to have it's name appear on the
page. The total income from one
page netted the Daily approxi
mately $70, plus the other adver
tising placed on that page.
Since when is it necessary for
us to BUY school spirit? Many
students turned out for one of the
largest rallies in the University's
history to give the team a sendoff.
It is that kind of school spirit that
we want at ivebrasKa.
The Daily has always given ade
quate space to pep rallies, and
for that the students and pep or
ganizations axe appreciative. But
fraternities and sororities do not
comprise over one-fourth of the
University's total enrollment and
are not, therefore, a truly repre
sentative part of the school.
Last Thursday presidents and
treasurers of the various houses
were again ausked to pay S2 each

The best student demonstration of pep, enthusiasm, and school spirit hi
many a moon cbxsed the annual homecoming celebration Saturday. "With
cheer leaders speaking over a loud speaker system, and using novelties galore
to keep the crowd pepped up, with the band playing school songs and peppy
collegiate novelty numbers, Memorial stadium rang out with the best Corn-,
busker spirit that we can remember.
Our hope is that when Nov. 9 rolls around and Dr. Eddie Anderson's
Iowa ITawkeycs invade Nebraska, the Missouri demonstration will become
only the first chapter of a yearbook of rejuvenated student pep and support.

for alumni on Homecoming. How
many alumni who might possibly
read the Daily do not know that
they are being welcomed? Not
only fraternities and sororities, but
other campus organizations extend
invitations of welcome to alumni.
The football game is also adver
tised as the Homecoming game
and fraternities and sororities con
tribute to the interest of Home
coming with their participation in
the Homecoming Decorations con
test. Nobody wants to see the Daily
operate at a loss and it has not
done so in the past. Judging from
its ability to show a fat profit
annually and the fact that the
customary four-page paper con
tains well over one-third of adver
tising copy, it does not appear
likely that it should be necessary
for organized houses to buy school
spirit or pay for a welcome to
alumni on an event that is already
an established tradition at the
University of Nebraska
