Phi Mu, Alpha Delta Theta
merge; Ball sponsors named
HIGHLIGHTING
the week's activity in sorority cir
cles is the merging of the local
Phi Mu chapter with the Wesleyan
Alpha Delta Theta chapter. Phi
Mu was installed in the spring of
1921; Alpha Delta Theta in 1927.
The services and activities cur
rounding the affiliation will con
tinue from Tuesday until Friday
of this week.
The pledging and initiation serv
ice will involve approximately 100
members of Alpha Delta Theta in
the Lincoln territory all of them
will become new members of Phi
Mu sorority.
During the week Miss Alice Mil
ler, national president of Phi Mu;
Miss Reno Co, also of Seattle, na
tional field secretary; and Mrs.
Liouise Stark, district officer from
St. Louis, Mo., will all be in Lin
coln for the ceremonies.
Participating from this campus
will be Phyllis Hurst, active presi
dent; Jody Marshall, vice presi
dent; Woodie Campbell, senior
member; Dorothy Allen, treasurer;
Kathryn Dona von, secretary; and
several alumnae.
Ceremonies begin with the
pledging onTuesday evening. On
Wednesday the pledges will be
initiated. Luncheons will include
one at the Alpha Delta Theta
house on Tuesday; the Phi Mu
house on Wednesday. An installa
tion banquet will climax the ac
tivities Thursday evening with 150
Phi Mu's present. Ceremonies will
end on Friday afternoon with a
tea at the Wesleyan chapter house.
OF INTEREST
to campusites are the Military Ball
sponsors. Most numerous among
sorority groups are the Alpha
Phi's, whose representatives in
clude Harriet Bowman (battalion,
field artillery); Mary Lou Daly
(Cornhusker field company, infan
try); Marian Bremers (Pershing
rifles, infantry); and Donna Bullis
(company I, infantry). Barb spon
sors include Constance Hourigan
(company D, engineers); Grace
Leaders (company C, infantry);
Dorothy Bell (company A, infan
try); Margaret Hedstrom (com

try); Dorothy Gilman (company

(freshman band, infantry); Betty

talion, infantry); Mary Louise
Morrow (company K, infantry);
and Marian Bowers (second bat
talion, infantry), and from the
Theta house Betty Jean Peterson
(company G, infantry); Edith
Knight (regimental, infantry); and
Ruth McMillan, (company F, in
fantry); Chi Omega's Dorothy
Wear and Barbara Lee join the
sponsor group. Dorothy is spon
soring battery D, field artillery;
and Barbara the battalion, engi
neers. Tri Delt Priscilla Wicks is
sponsoring company B, engineers;
and Ruth Iverson, company H, in
fantry. Priscilla Reitz, Delta
Gamma, is sponsor for battery C,
field artillery; and Jane Pratt,
OAPi, is sponsor for battery A,
field artillery; Phi Mu Phyllis
Hurst is sponsor for company M,
infantry; and Ruth Fox, Pi Phi,
for Company A, engineers. '
DURING VACATION
Alpha Phi's of Omaha met for
luncheon at the Paxton Hotel.
Also holding luncheons for Lin
coln and Omaha girls were Kappa
Kappa Gamma and Delta Gamma
both at the Paxton.
Announcing engagements over
the week-end were Helen Ford,
former president of Alpha Phi, at
a luncheon given at the Black
stone Hotel in Omaha on Satur
day, December 2. She will marry
Charles Frederick Mudgett, Jr.
The approaching marriage of
Helen Jane Johnson to John Groth
was announced on Sunday. The
wedding date has been set for
Christmas day and will take place
at the Groth home. Helen Jane
was a Kappa Kappa Gamma; John
was an Acacia.
Carlene Phillippi announced her
betrothal to J. Duane Vance of
Chicago. Both attended the uni
versity. TO BE INITIATED
into Orchesis, modern dance or
ganization, at 7:30 on Wednesday
night are Dorothy Jean Bryan,
Margaret Buttman, Dorothy Gal
braith, Betty Groth, Juanita Lam
