furious on how Bob Waugh broke

usual ones of tripping on the Sig
Alf rug and bumping into a door
the only one left is that he stum
bled over someone.

Dixie Davis hinted that you
would read something different In
the Wednesday column. She in
vited me to write as a guest what
my idea of a society column was.
Well, I sat down to type off the
regular gore and when about half
finished with all the ideas I had,
I began to realize mat i wasn't
writing the right thing. So 1 have
started anew, and here is what my
ideas on a society column were.
The Phi Gamma Delta fraternity
held their traditional Pig dinner
at the Lincoln hotel last Saturday
evening. The honored guest was J.
E. Houston of Purdue, Ind., initi
ated into the fraternity in 1878,
Rowland Thomas of Omaha was
toastmaster for the evening. The
Pig dinner has an unusual story
back of it. About 1878 in Caiiror
nia a Fiji by name of Norris stole
a pig from the Beta's; since that
time the fraternity has celebrated
the trick.
Miss Gladys Lambert of Broken
Bow and Foster Leui of Batcsland
S. D., have announced their en
gagement. Miss Lambert is a grad
uate of Nebraska university.
Sigma Kappa entertained at
homecoming dinner at the chapter
Entry Deadline Takes
Effect at Noon
With the Union "name the
room" contest closing today at
noon, last minute entries are con
tinuing to come in, according to
Mrs. Edgar Ylnger, Union social
director. Responses to the contest
have continued during the last
few days, and there promises to
be a large number of names from
which to choose.
The judging committee will meet
in room 315 of the Union at 5
o'clock this afternoon to decide
the winning names.
Winner of the first prize will
receive a free trip to Kansas for
the Kansas - Nebraska football
game November 5; second prize
winner will receive a free ticket
to the Military Ball or Mortar
Board party, and the third prize
winner will be awarded 20 free
cokes.
Members of the judging commit
tee are Dixie Davis, chairman;
Gwenlth Orr, Helen Pascoe, Phyl
lis Chamberlain, Harry Epperson,
Paul Bradley, Pat Leonard, and
Denver Gray. Kenneth Van Sant
will be present to assist the com
mittee. In case of a tie in the contest,
a drawing will be made for the
winner. Judges' decisions, which
are final, will be announced in
Thursday's Daily Nebraskan.

William Granklin Johnson were
married in Lincoln Fridav after
noon. She is a Nebraska graduate,
a memoer or cm omega, and of
Mortar Board and was elected to
Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Johnson is
a former Nebraska student and be
longs to Farm House.
Miss Betty James, Alpha Phi,
and former student at the Univer
sity of Nebraska whose engage
ment to Frederick Eiche was an
nounced a few weeks ago, has an
nounced that her wedding will take
place at 4:30 o clock in the after
noon of Thanksgiving day.
Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae and
actives will entertain their new
province director, Mrs. Mayol H.
Linscott of Kansas City Mo., this
evening at a buffet supper at the
nome 01 Mrs. fnuip watKlqs. on
Friday afternoon the active mem
bers will honor Mrs. Linscott with
a tea at the chapter house. The
committee in charge of arrange
ments includes Miss Helen Kovan
da, Miss Jean Russell and Miss
Irene Hollcnbach.
Miss Ruth E. Callaghan and Mr
Cyril C. Elias of Columbus were
married there Saturday. Mrs. Elias
is a graduate of St. Mary's college,
ana Mr. Kiias attended the Um
versity of Nebraska.
Pledges of Phi Mu sorority en
tertained the pledges of all other
sororities at a tea Sunday after
noon m the chapter house.
Going to Chicago this week is
Miss Lois Keller, Theta, who will
be bridesmaid at the fashionable
wedding of a classmate at Ferry
Hall.
Dr. Francis X. Byron, graduate
of the Univeisity of Nebraska col
lege of medicine, was married last
month to Miss Margaret Inglis
Pound in New Scotland, N. Y.
Language Students
Attend Slide Lecture
Prof. Linus Burr Smith, dean of
the college of architecture, will
discuss "The Religious Architec
ture of France" tomorrow at 4
o'clock in Social Science auditor
ium, continuing a series of lec
tures conducted by the depart
ment of romance lanquages.
With emphasis upon the
most beautiful and representative
French cathedrals, Prof, limith
will illustrate his talk with slides,
showing the development of dif
ferent types of architecture in va
rious parts of France.
Prof. Smith .will continue with
his discussion 'of French architec
ture on Thursday, December 1,
at the same place and hour. The
combined lectures will constitute
two of three being held for the
purpose of familiarizing French
students with the countries of the
language they are studying, and
incidentally to give them an op
portunity for extra credit in their
classes. The third French lecture
will be presented on Thursdcy,
January 12.
Similar supplementary lectures
for Spanish students have already
begun, with Ray Ramsay speak
ing on October 20. Prof. Nels
Bengtson will talk on "Central
America" on Thursday, November
17, and a third lecture, on a sub
ject not yet determined, will be
held on Thursday, January 5.
