An article appearing in the Daily Car dinal gives a new slant on the question so that some students may think twice before they try to kiss a blind date again. The transmission of the "specific parasite bacterium," according to Dr. C S. Bobo of the University of Oklahoma, can be the result of an innocent little kiss and can ulti mately cause "trench mouth." Altho it carries a long name, the tnrrier of this disease is a little wriggly germ which, when active, muses a soreness of the gums and tongue and a final recession of the gums from the teeth. Germs Pass In Sputum. Each vear a new iliscussion on this disease comes up from differ ent parts of the country, and this year Dr. Bobo is treating an aver age of four persons a day for the malady. The meaicaii statr at tne univer sity have agreed that trench mouth cannot be spread except thru the passing of germs in sputum from mouths mreciea to umnieciea per sons, either directly or indirectly. Keep Mouth Clean. The germs are deposited on dishes, in lavatories, lip-sticks, door knobs, telephone mouthpieces, towels, bed clothing, and other ar ticles, and most usually the disease is found in the mouths of young people, attacking the gum tissue about or between the teeth. The germ cannot tolerate oxy gen, and therefore, it cannot live except in a hidden crypt where no oxygen can enter.
