PLA-MOR 25c per Person Dancing Free Pastors Express Confidence And Regard for State j University. ! Ey signing an appeal directed toj the "churches in the state, an ap- i peal opposing the prop-osed reduc- j tkn ifi appropriations by the leg- j islature for the university, eight j Lincoln ministers Friday came to the support of students and friends 1 of the university fighting thej measure. i The appeai expressed the belief j that the p-roposed reduction in the ; university budget is unfairly ap- J j-licJ to the departments and that ' such drastic cuts are destructive! Nebraska. The ministers also voiced their confidence and trust in the char a'(ir and seriousness of the stu t) nt bcxJy and their regard for the members of the faculty. Follow ing is the text of the ap'peal. which was signed by: P.ev. Ray Hunt, li.-v. Walter Aitken. P.ev. Ben Wy land. Ticv. Paul Johnston, P.ev. Krvine Inglis, Pv. Paul Calhoun, P.ev. Clifton Walcott and Rev. G. Keller Rubrecht: Certain false and hurtful tatement concerning the char acter and patriotism of univer sity students and faculty have been circulated in connection with consideration of the budget by the legislature for the uni versity. We believe the university stu dent body is representative of the best of our youth. They are an earnest, sober and courteous group of young people. Many of them are working long hours at low wages to supplement allow ances from their families. They are open minded and critical of some of our social and political life, the same as many preach- 1 I ? 11 '' ;Vi ! 1L SPRING IS IN THE AIR ers are. but they are loyal Amer ican citizens worthy of their heritage. We hold the members of the faculty in high regard. A large percentage f them are loyal members of our churches and many f them are officers in the church and leaders In Bible schools and church work. We cannot withhold our testi mony as to their Christian in tegrity and loyal citizenship, for irreparable harm would follow any Iocs of confidence in either their character or citizenship in this moment when political par tisanship has entered the discus sion of the state budget for the university. j We feel that the proposed re duction in the university budget is unfairly applied to depart ments and that such drastic re ductions are destructive to the policy of free education in Ne braska. If students are asked to assume a considerable part of the proposed reduction by way of increased fees, then state edu cation will be available only to the few who have more than average Income.
