DEAR DOPE around the Husker
D track camp bas it that Ne
braska is due for a licking when
the Schultemen take on the Okla
homa Sooners in Friday s cinder
dual. Coach Henry Schulte is the
chief peddler of this gloomy fore
cast, but according to the way
things are stacking up now. the
wily track mentor may be right.
Schulte has it all figured out
that the Sooners have 45 points in
the field events tucked safely away
in the vest pocket right now.
Added to this tally, he gives the
Oklahomans 26 points in the run
ning events, a total of 71 markers
for Coach John Jacob's men. Since
131 points constitutes the grand
total, Nebraska will be just an
also ran with 60 points. At least,
that is the wav "Pa" Schulte dopes
it. And Schuite is one of.the best
when it comes to figuring track
meets.
Under ordinary circumstances,
the Huskers would win from Okla
homa bands down. But with the
absence of Petz and Smutny from
the dashes and hurdles, the view
doesn't look so good for Nebraska.
To this pessimistic outlook can be
added the fact that a pair of
Schulte'a most valuable point get
ters have yet to clear the scholas
tic hurdle.
The dope sheet compiled by the
Scarlet tutor credits the Norman
athletes with nine points in the
broad jump, Morris. Mell and
Walker being a trio of fine jump
ers. The Sooners are given four
poinU in the shot put. six in the
discus and nine in the javelin,
Kleas starring in the last named
event. With Newblock and
Simma In the high Jump, Schulte
puts them down for eight points.
He rates the Invaders eight in the
pole vault, which to this writer ap
pears a bit strong.
In the track events, Schulte
scores four points in both the 300
and 220-yard dashes for the Okls
homa squad. Pansze and Adkison
are the leading sprinters. Hewitt,
who has done a 49.6 quarter, is
figured for a second In the 440,
Ostergard believed to hold the
edge here. Three points in the
8S0, one in the mile, five in the
high hurdles and three in the low
barriers complete the slaughter,
according to Henry F. fcebulte.
With all respect to Coach
Schulte, I look for the Huskers to
win. At all odds, it should be an
exciting track meet.
