Bfilookei' Muffin Spencer The situation doesn't look so hot for . Nebraska with the Sooner o-amn nnlv one dav awav. This & j - - statement is Dasea on me worn oi the varsity against the freshmen in a ixtv minute tilt Wednesday afternoon. The Huskers were able to score only once against the spir ited defense of the yearlings and that- mmn parlv in the first Quar ter. Maybe the freshmen put a bet ter eleven on tne rieia man we give them credit for, but at any rate the scrimmage made the Huskers look bad. SOONER COACHES STRESS DEFENSE NEBRASKA PLAYS Boston Market Free Delivery Service Charge Accounts 1333 "O" B6788 CLASSIFIED Th rlava of lookinEr on the Oklahoma-Nebraska tilt as one which Is more or less of a setup are past. Oklahoma Is coming to Lincoln with one of the best teams In the south, and .with the show ing of the two teams compared la at- Kntnrrlav the dime column fa- vors the Sooners. While Nebraska was losing to the Wildcats from Northwestern, Oklahoma gave Rice a good drubbing. And Rice is a strong eleven any way you look at it. In spite of the scrimmage last Wednesday, in spite of the Corn huskers'' defeat at Evanston, and in spite of the reputed strength of Oklahoma, we will go on record as favoring Nebraska to win Sat urday. This prediction is not based on the sole reason that we are from Nebraska but is based on one thintr sDirit of the Cornhuskers. Tho unirir Is above rerjroach. In spite of the fact that the student body has not stood behind the team in any of its games so far, the spirit of the Huskers is good. rv,onh t?iwp snirt "I reallv believe we're in a new era here as far as spirit is concerned. The boys want tr, cvroit Thp snlrit of the team is stronger and harder to break riMi.n T?ararrilpsa nf what anvone wants to say, Nebraska has a good team this fall and it will be their cr.ii-it that- will carrv them through. That is the reason we pick Nebraska over Oklahoma Saturday. We will probably get a rap in the neck for saying that the stu dent body has not backed the team in any game to date. Of course, clvpn a. nendoff rallv before they went to Evanston last week ana a rauy win De uem ue fore the sooner game. But that isn't what we mean. There isn't the tension in the student body. It is impossible to feel an under current of spirit on the campus with every student pulling hard for a Nebraska victory. These are tho things that force a team to go out and win. That is what sent the Cornhuskers out against a superior Notre Dame team a few years back and brought them in on the long end of the score. We can rap the coaches as much as we want, we can cry about lack of material, but whether we like it or not the fault lies right at home. In other words, we have a student body here that is dead all the way through. Before we came to school we heard much about Nebraska spirit, but that must have been before the extra curricular activities of the student body was carried on in local Ice cream parlors. Ray Richards, former star tackle at Nebraska, was headlineman in the scrimmage Wednesday. PLAN SEND-OFF RALLY Pepsters Lead Pre-Game Spirit Show Before Train Leaves. NORMAN, Okla., Oct. 8. Back from Evanston, 111., where last Saturday they charted Cornhusker formations In the Nebraska-Northwestern game, the Oklahoma scouts report that the Cornhuskers of 1931 have forsaken their tradi tional running attack for one that combines runs and forward passes and will theicfore be all the more dangerous when the Sooners en gage them in the "Big Six" opener at Lincoln Saturday. Nebraska fought Northwestern to a standstill the last three quar ters of the contest, say the Sooner scouts. Monday alternoon saw Coaches Adriun Lindsey and Dewey Luster hustle their Sooners into a physical analysis of the Cornhusker forma tions brought back in the note books of the scouts. The freshmen have beii taught the Nebraska plays and will use them in dummy scrimmage against the varsity. Dunlay Is Recovered. In the Rice game Bob Dunlay, big quarterback from Haskell, took a bad lick on the head but was dismissed from the university in firmary Sunday. Paul Young, lanky center, is also fully re covered from the muscle cramp that toppled him over in the third quarter of the Rice game Satur day. A big sendoff rally will be given the Sooners when they board the train Thursday night for Lincoln. The "Eighty-Niners" varsity pep organization, will be in charge. Miss Ester S.
