The survey Is a follow tin project
of Ihe Burlington Profitable I'ork

October. 1PM. and also of Ihe
feven year old hog lot innltation
project of the extension service.
In the seven years since the
county agrnta of Nebraska first
began advocntlpg' the raising- of
hogs on clean ground away from
the farm buildings, circulars and
personal letters, newspaper stories,
farm visits, touts. 4-H club wotk
and exhibits at fairs have all been
used to spread the idea among all
the farmers of Nebraska. Just
how wrll this system has been
adopted by the general farmers of
the state will be determined by the
three representative surveys.
Will Check Detaila.
The questionnaire card will
make It possible to check the
equipment and methods used by
the farmer in handling: his brood
aows, In farrowing; them, and in
taking- care of his pigs. It will
also prnvldo a check of feeding
methods, whether or not the man
visited the Profitable Pork .special,
whether or not he has obtained the
Idea from county agents, bulletins,
newspapers, or other sources,
whether or not he wants help and
Information, and what his troubles
have been In trying: out the hog
lot sanitation system.
One check has already bren
made on the effectiveness of the
Profitable Pork special. From a
survey of lumber yards It Is defin
itely 'known that 5,113 approved
Invldidual and two sow hog houses
were sold by the lumber yards and
that material for 8,072 houses was
sold - to farmers following the
Profitable Pork special. The same
survey showed that 2,939 houses
of other types were sold either
built or In the material. The lum
ber yards sold 1,284 self seeders
