Campus Spiritualists.
Do we have any real school spirit on the
Nebraska campus? This question has become
all-important of late. Our cheering section
gives the. team less support than the knot-hole
club, whose yells resound from the west stand.
A contributor in The .Morning Mail column
deplores the lack of co-operation of the Tassels
and Corncobs.
Nebraska's varsity squad won frum Iowa
state yesterday by a score of 14-12. The
margin was too narrow for comfort. "Dis
appointed" places the blame for any possible
lack of fight and fire on the part of the team
squarely on the melancholy and indifferent
"send off" that Nebraska students gave the
squad. There is much in w hat he says. Twenty
Corncobs, three Tassels, and no band is a very
poor start toward nrousing interest and spirit
among the student body as a w hole.
Again, at the Oklahoma-Nebraska fresh
man game in Memorial stadium yesterday,
there was little student spirit in evidence. Any
Tassels present were well concealed. A few
Corncobs traversed the stands, selling pro
grams. The band was fairly well represented,
but could by no menus claim a record attend
ance. The student sections were quite well
filled, and the cheer leaders did their best,
but the loudest yells were directed at the
referee. Cheering for the team was indifferent.
A few loyal Nebraskans even did their best to
get the cheer leaders laughed out of court, by
mixing 'up and good-naturedly syncopating a
few of the cheers.
The Nebraskan does not believe 1 lint
school spirit 'on our campus is dead. Tassels
and Corncobs are doing what they can. The
test will come next Saturday, when the Corn
buskers meet Montana on Memorial stadium
sod. Whether the Unskers take the game de
pcrjds to a great extent on the student support
they receive. How about a real "spiritualistic"
revival 1

They might do well to stop and consider pos
sible results.
If, as The Nebraskan story si s to in
dicate activities arc to operate under the re
gents' plan, let. us hope that whatever the
situation may be, the administrative committee
will be actuated solely by n sense of financial
consideration when it act on the budgets of
respective organizations. The committee has a
formidable bludgeon to wield on organizations
which it dislikes. By denying an organization
the Student council might be used as nu
instance necessary funds, it can easily render
such uti organization useless. Such cases, we
hope, will not, arise.
When a nuestion of the utility of mi or
ganization becomes niool, let the decision rest
with the student body. If they tcei tiinr us
existence can no longer be tolerated they w-ill
take their own measures to abolish it. AV)V
More Parking.
TO THE EDITOR:
In regard to parking spaces, would it not
be a good idea to give faculty members parking
space in the immediate vicinity of their class
rooms and then throw the present Faculty
parking area, open to students?
Owing to the fact that all members of the
faculty of our college are not present and
needing parking space at any one time, except
on special occasions, it is believed that, two
thirds of the necessary spaces could be re
served and would be in use at all times.
On special occasions additional parking
spaces could be found wherever possible for
the time being bv the individual concerned.

Is Edison Wrong?
Thomas Alva Edison attended school only three months, He is
an outstanding example of what a m?n may achieve without the ad
vantages of a formal education.
Yet Edison is awarding- University scholarship to a group of
young men every year.
Is he wrong: in selecting these young men by a series of exami
nations? Is he wrong when he has those examinations graded and then ,
chooses those who have the highest grades?
If he is wrong, so is the General Electric Company and the Stand
ard Oil Company and the National City Bank of New York and scores
of lending American (.'orpnnilions.
Every spring representatives of many great corporations visit
the Nebraska campus with positions to offer certain Nebraska graduat
ing seniors. Are these corporations wrong- when they instruot their
representatives to examine the scholastic records of applicants for
positions?
Are they wrong when they show no interest in the man who
"just gets by"?
Grades count!
