tnr over tha said ballot which waa
fiven to the Cornhuakers. After
looking- over tha ballot wo cannot
see how any university football
man could have made a mistake
unless be balloted with a blindfold.
Be Misconstrues Facts.
"Are you In favor of a fare
captain In 1930 f" la the way the
Omaha Bee-News worded the bail
lot when In reality the ballot read
as follows: "Are you In favor of
game captains for 1930?" The
Injection of one word and cutting
off of one letter made a treat
amount of difference. The Bee
News stated that naturally the
ballot waa referring to a captain
for the entire year which waa not
the cae.
Herb Glsh and Coach D. X.
Bible atated Monday that the re
port on the election waa not baaed
on facta due to the fact that the
wordings In the ballot waa not re
printed correctly. The ballot as
given la aa follows:
"A request haa been made by
members of the team that the
team be allowed to vote on the
game captain for 1930. Accord
ingly the ballot haa been arranged
thus:
Are you In favor of game cap-
Ulna for 1930?
In the event that a majority of
votes Is not cast for game cap
tains on the above ballot, my vote
Is as follows:
First choice:
Second choice:
Third choice;
Aid to Team.
An interview with members of
the coaching ataff and heads of
the athletic department Monday
revealed that opinion was unani
mous In not electing a captain for
the entire year aa haa been done
in the past. In fact a statement
prefixed the ballot, stating the
opinion of th athletic department
as favoring game captains instead
of a captain for the year. Herb
Gish stated that it was merely an
experiment In trying out a plan
that would better the Nebraska
football team In putting the res
ponsibility on all senior players
instend of on one man.
Coach Bible, head football coach
of the Cornhuskers, agreed that
the responsibility on one man's
shoulders was too much and did
not make for the best kind of foot
ball. "With a captain for each of
the nine games next year, it will
mean that nine men will have full
responsibility for the Cornhusker
football team and when a captain
is named for a game, it will mean
more to him to go in and give his
all to win the game than to shove
off all the responsibility to the
captain of the year," Coach Bible
stated.

Negotiations with Denver for a
football game on the 1910 grid
Iron slate seems to be dropped as
tha D. U. eleven is booked for a
game on the only open date for
the Huakers and will not be ahle
to meet the Cornhuskers. A nine
game slats is the most desirable
from all standpoints but In all
probability some team will be
found to fit in on the open date
before the Huakers meet Pitt.
Iowa Stato is playing a nine-gams
card neat season with Illinois,
stated In addition. to the Big STx
foes. The Ames school Is likewise
venturing Into the southland, play
ing Rice of Huston on Deo. 6 In
a post-season game and Loyola at
Now Orleans on Nov. 29.
Nebratka followed many other
achools Friday evening when they
chose t have a football captain
for each game during 1930 In
stead of a captain fr the yesr.
Senior members of the team will
act as csptain during 1030 and the
athletic teams at Nebraska from
now on will do away with the
tradition of electing a leader for
the entire season. Announcements
from members of the coaching
staff at the annual Cornhusker
banquet Friday evening made it
clear that the teams without
captains were far better off than
otherwise. The 1930 basketball
team Is without a captain for the
season and no captains have been
elected for any of the winter and
rpring sports at the university.
Missouri is the fifth Big Six
football eleven to enter Into foot
ball contracts with tesms from the
southwest. In addition to Ne
braska, Oklahoma, Iowa State,
Kansss State, Missouri has com
pleted arrangements to meet a
team from the south. The Tigers
have signed a four-year pact with
the University of Texas at Austin
with tha first aame at Columbia
on Oct. 11. Iowa State has signed
Rice and Loyoia. neoraana na
signed Texas Aggies. Last season
Kansas State met the Texas Ag
nia while the Sooners took on
Texas. The all-star game between
the Big Six and the southwest
conference last season must have
hH aama affect on the 1929 and
1930 footbal schedules. Missouri
hss also ventured out Into the
Rocky mountain conference and
signed up the University of Colo
rado for a two year basis home-and-homa.
For thoaa who have Cornhuaker
football at heart they cannot help
but look upon the gridiron rela
tionship of Nebraska and Iowa aa
a boou to liuaker gridiron condi
tions. There are a chosen few
who follow the War Rix and seem
ingly do not approve of Nebraska
meeting the liaweyea who were
given an open alap in the face for
violating Hig Ten rulea and those
choseu few come out with the
argument that If the liaweyea are
D'H good enough for the Uig Ten
iiow the Big Nine then are they
good enough for the Itig Six? Ne
braska and Jowa have for many
years been ancient rivals on the
gridiron and alnro the Haweyea
found that they could not take on
aa powerful a team as Nebraska
with their regular six-game liig
Ten schedule, the Cornhuskers
were droped from the Iowa slate.
Now that Iowa does not have to
meet the six teams In the Big Ten.
Nebraska waa eager to renew that
fine relationship that existed be
tween tho two schools for so many
yeara and have accordingly signed
the Iowa school on a long lime
basis. Some say that Iowa was
not clean athletically enough for
the western loop but Is clean
enough for the ISig Six. As far as
that goes, there are many teams
In the Big Ten which meet Big
Six schools which could fall under
the same classification but they
are not revealed to John Public
for more reasons than one and,
that one Is not only the gate re
ceipts. And as far as Nebraska is
concerned, Iowa university Is
going to mane for a fine football
relationship between the two
schools and a home and home con
tract over a long period of years
