. DIES EARLY MONDAY
Funeral for Rose Strickland
Held, at Residence
Today at 2:30
Kose Strickland, nineteen, sopho
more in the College or Arts and
Sciences, died suddenly early Mon
day morning at nor home, 1437
Rose street. Miss Strickland had
been 111 for several weeks, .but had
worked regularly at her duties as
assistant in the university reserve
library. She returned to her home
Saturday noon aner woming ail
morning, and became seriously 111
late Sunday afternoon. Complica
tions from a combination of causes
resulted in ner aeain.
She was a graduate of Lincoln
high school, and had been em
ployed by the university library
since June, 1926, first as a helper
In main library, and later as an as
sistant in the reserve department,
which position she had held since
September, 1927. She Is survived by
her mother, Mrs. S. C. Strickland,
and a sister, Miss Delia, or omana.
Funeral services will be held this
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the
residence, 1437 Rose street. The
Rev. Herbert Rhodes of Trinity
Methodist church will conduct the
services. Pallbearers wlU. be asso
ciates from tne university imrary.

Of Absence for Year
Due to Sickness
Prof. E. E. Brackett of the de
partment of agricultural engineer
ing in the University of Nebraska
has been appointed acting chair
man of that lepartment, beginning
February 1. He takes the place of
Prof. O. W. Sjogren, wbto was
obliged to apply for a year's leave
of absence due to sickness in his
family. Professor Brackett came
to Nebraska as an Instructor In
1913, attaining the rank of profes
sor In 1922.
Courses In the department of ag
ricultural engineering offer Instruc
tion in subjects Involving the ap
plication of engineering knowledge
to the solution of agricultural
problems. It offers an opportunity
to farm-reared boys to enter a line
of engineering which will permit
them to capitalize their farm ex
perience to the fullest extent.
This year there are thirty stu
dents In this department. Last
year four degrees were granted In
agricultural engineering.
