Hard Schedule
Dan McMullen, Clair Sloan, Ray
mond Richards and Ted James are
held in high esteem as football
players by the Army team of 1929
and their coach, Captain "Biff"
Jones. The coach and team picked
An all-opponent team and placed
four Nebraska ulayera on the se
lections. Sloan and McMullen are
on the second selection and James
and Richards on the third.

Coach Ernest E. Bearg, athletic
director and head football coach of
Washburn college. That's the new
title of the former Cornhutker
football mentor. Coach Bearg an
nounced Tuesday that he had ac
cepted the offer of hie alma mater
to take the head of the athletic
department, it aid not come as a
surprise to Cornhusker followers,
Dut a few things did surprise the
Nebraskans and one was that
Coach Bearg was offered an in
creased salary to remain at Ne
braska. This statement was re
leased by Dr. Parley Womer. ores!-
dent of the Topeka school at the
dedication ceremonies of the new
$200,000 field house at which
Bearg attended. Washburn officials
are glad to welcome Bearg back to
the school. President Womer stated
that when Bearg left In 1920 that
he left with the understanding
that he would be back.

The All-Star eastern football
squad has arrived in San Francisco
for the practice sessions before the
big game between the star eleveu

Andy Kerr and Dick Hanley of
Washington and Jefferson and
Northwestern. Two Cornhusker
gridders are listed among the east
ern squad. Blue Howell, fullback,
and Dan McMullen, guard. The
two Nebraska players will repre
sent Nebraska on the star selec
tion and will meet the cream of
the Pacific coast, in .the Shrine
benefit game In Kezar stadium in
San Francisco on December 29.
Kansas university opened their
basketball season Tuesday evening
at Wzshburn in Topeka to dedi
cate the new Washburn field house.
The Jayhawker aggregation.
coached by the famous "Phog" Al
ien took a defeat at the hands of
the Topeka quint to usher in the
1928-29 season. The final score of
the game was 24 to 25. The next
game on the Jayhawk schedule is
with the Missouri Tigers in a non
conference game. The Allen crew
is booked for some stellar work In
Tonight Nebraska pries open the
lid of the winter sport season,
meeting the South Dakota Rabbits
on the Coliseum floor. South Da
kota comes to Nebraska unher
alded and unsung and also an un
known quantity on the hardwoods,
Nebraska has not been in the sport
light in basketball for some time
and tonight, fans and followers of
the cage game will have an oppor
tunity to see what the Blackmen
will do this season In the Big Six
conference.
FOLK LORE COURSE
WILL BE OFFERED
According to A. A. Reed, director
of the extension division, a course
in rythmic music based on folk lore
to be ustd in elementary and high
schools will be offered In night I
classes of the second semester next
year. Arrangement of schedule for
the night classes is under way, ac- J
cording to Mr. Reed.
