Metcalf, athletic director at Iowa State comes forth with his first statement since the! break up of the Missouri Valley conference. Trouble in the old organization was more evi dent to those on the inside than to e public, according to the Amef athletic director. "Foi years the members of the conference have realized that the present organiza tion was unsatisfactory, and was, to a considerable extent, defeating its own purpose. The "play whom you like" plan of schedule making left some schools without fair represen tation in the conference, while some of the members, for financial reas ons, have chosen to fill their sched ules with non-conference rather than Valley schools. In the Big Six it will be possible for each football team to play every member of the con ference and no team will be able to take first place through a light sched ule as was done last season. Many comments were heard after the game at Missouri Saturday as Ne braska rooters left the field. One Mizzou fan was heard to say, "Well the Tigers beat the best team they probably ever will beat and I don't know whether the best team won or not." Remarks like thi3 were heard among the crowd that left the sta dium. But it was a great game, one of the greatest the Cornhuskers ever played. Glenn Presnell won an All American place in the mind oi every Missouri rooter. He made a name on the Mizzou field that will not soon be forgotten. Presnell was the by word during the second half and af ter the game. Two 30-yard runs by the brilliant Husker back were the outstanding plays of the afternoon. One end run around the left wing with Presnell carrying the ball and Blue Howell running interference was the best exhibition of football seen in the Valley this season. Pres nell carried the pigskin for 32 yards before he was downed by a Tiger back. The Husker backfield went through the Tiger line at will and took the ball almost the entire length of the field in the) second quarter only to lose it on the 20-yard line. When Nebraska was well into the Tiger ter ritory, Coach Gwinn Henry's line held like a stone wall, forcing Ne braska to try fur a place kick or a forward pass. The Husker's opponents for Thanksgiving took a lop-sided score in Saturday's game with Alfred. When the final gun sounded the slaughter Chick Mehan's Violets had piled up a count of 65 to 0. The New York eleven scored 19 in the first quarter, 26 in the second, 7 in the third and 13 in the last. So far the eastern coast team has gone through this season without a defeat. The Missouri Valley champions for last year continued their losing streak by taking a beating from the Minnesota Gophers Saturday ' taking the small end of the 40 to 0 count. The Oklahoma Aggies were power less against the Minnesota reserves and throughout the first three quar ters the Aggies were held without a first down. Kansas was the second Missouri Valley team to fall before a Big Ten team Saturday. Wisconsin took the Jayhawkers to a 26 to 6 defeat on the Kansas Stadium field. Cochran's 90-yard run in the last ten minutes, to score for Kansas, was the out standing feature of the day for the Jayhawkers. The University of Southern Cali fornia has caused widespread interest among educators and students by in cluding in their curriculum a four- year vourse in technical training for the motion picture industry. The plan was developed under the advise ment of the Committee of College Affairs of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, of which Douglas Fairbanks is president, and Milton Sills chairman. The curricul um has been endorsed by Will Hays, head of the organized motion picture industry. YEARLINGS WORK Oil BLOCKING TACTICS Freshmen Mentor Shows First Year Men How to Send Clever Forward Passes A good sized squad of yearlings spent the Monday afternoon football session in blocking and passing tac tics. "Choppy" Rhodes, freshman mentor, was on the sending end of the passes and was responsible for some clever foward flips. A large number of ends were going down for his efforts. Assistants Lehman and Keim were occupied in repulsing attacks by the various linemen. "We can't expect them to do it right if we don't show them how" was their version of the affair. Charging and blocking prac tice kept the forward wall men busy. The warm climate slowed up all the candidates somewhat, but the assem bled coaches continued pushing the players through the prescribed course. Late in the afternoon, a tackling drill was put out for the benefit of all the players. If this was destined to take off surplus weight it certainly accomplished its purpose. Several of the linemen, Wittwer and Reid for instance, lost some. South field, where the youngsters hold their practice battles, is in fine condition. Bert Clark, the Tiger quarterback, has an uncanny accuracy of snagging passes out of the air with any number of opposing players trying to break it up. The Tigers could gain but little ground through the Husker line or around the ends, so depended entirely on their passing game to do the work. Coach Henry inserted Clark into the lineup just at the psychological mo ment and for a second time Clark scored against the Huskers to win.
