BASKETBALL MEN TO BE CALLED (Continued from Page 1) host of promising material from the last year reserves, are expected to answer Tuesday's call, and suit up for the .practice. Lettermen Form Nucleus Five lettermen will return to the team this year, which should give Coach Black a nucleus around which to build a strong team. Aside from Elliott and Othmer, Jug Brown, Elmer Holm, and Vint Lawson earned their letters in varsity competition last year, and are counted upon to even better their preformances. The graduation of such stellar men as Smaha, Page, Andresen and Klep ser from the 1927 aggregation, has given Black something to worry about, but he is confident that his five veterans, and his abundance of excellent material from the reserves, will give him a team that will be "Your Drug Store" Hot Roast Beef Sandwiches Hot Roast Pork Sandwiches Hot Chicken Dinner Owl Pharmacy S. Krall and Olson were carried with the first string last year, but could not break into enough games to earn the coveted "N". Both are pointing themselves for tompetition this year, and undoubt edly will be seen in most of the eames. Witte's performance with the freshmen team last year, stamped him as logical varsity material, ant he too will no doubt get into a big share of the games. Center Position Open , Other men who are expected to battle for places are Grace, Beuch ner, Toms, Mileski, Lewandowski and Kronkright. All saw service of some kind last year, and showed up well. In his second year as head coach of basketball at Nebraska, Black is particularly anxious to better his work of last year, when his team fin ished fourth in the Missouri Valley standing, with seven games won and five lost. The loss of Ted Page, tall cen ter of the 1927 team, leaves the pivot position unoccupied, and it is generally believed that Black will de velop Captain Elliott for this position unless some new aspirant shows un usual form. Brown and Othmer probably will battle for forward po sitions with the new men furnishing plenty of competition.
