Large Squad of First Year Men
Reports to Coach Uearg.
Will Assist Varsity
About forty freshmen have an
swered the call of Coach Bears for
aspirants for the yearling basketball
squad. Drills on basket shooting,
passing the bull, and defensive posi
tions have occupied the early prac
tice periods.
A smaller squad will be Bclected
from the group shortly after the
vacation period. They will be in
structed to use systems of the Husk
er oppnents in scrimmages with the
Varsity. Those who have been
watching the freshmen In their pre
liminary workouts predict that they
will give the Huskers an interesting
struggle.

Band Again Moves to
Another New Location
Owinar to the fact that the quar
tors which the R. 0. T. C. band has
recently occupied in the Coliseum
were entirely unBuitcd to rehearsals
the band has moved back into leacn
er's College. The band is at present
holding but two rehearsals a week,
on Tuesday and Thursday, and Is
working on material for the concert
season which will soon open.
The organization will spend the
rest of the winter on inside rehear
sals until warm weather will allow
resuming marching tactics.
HUSKERS TO MEET
NATIONAL CHAMPS
Nebraska Quintet Will Play St. Joe
Hillyardi In Practice Game
During Holidays
Definite arrangements for a prac
tice game with the Hillyard quintet
on December 30 at St Joe have been
made for the Huskers during the
holiday vacation. After a short pause
in the workouts to enable the men
to return to their homes for Christ
mas day, tht squad will report the
following Monday at St. Joe for a
week of early season drill which in
cludes the practice bout with the
Hillyard team.
After a short workout in which a
center and two forwards attempted
to' work the ball in a series of short
passes through a pair of guards, the
squad was divided into four teams
for scrimmage. Several changes have
been made in the lineups this week
as Coach Black is giving all the can
didates a chance to show whether
he should be included in the group
of players to be selected next week
for the St Joe trip.
Four Team Scrimmage
In the first scrimmage, Captain
Smaha and Elliot, Othmer, Krahl
and Gerelick opposed. Klepser and
Brown, Page, Lawson and Holm. The
scoring was evenly divided, and the
teamwork showed a slight improve
ment over that displayed against the
freshmen the afternoon before.
The other two squads which scrim
maged for a lengthy period had Mar
rov and Lindell, Nimmo, Gohde and
Mielenz on one team, and Armstrong
and Shaner, Holmes, Morrison and
Roth on the other.

If determination is anything the
Phi Sigma Kappa team will carry
off the Sntcr-fratcrnity basketball
championship again this year. The
Phi Sigs have been practicing for
about three weeks and will have the
five men coordinating perfectly when
the opening whistle blow. They have
played two practice games each
week. Some of the teams that they
have met in preliminary tilts are
Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Phi Ep-
silon and Beta Theta Pi.
With four of the regulars who
composed last year's championship
team back again, the chances are
certainly favorable for Phi Sigma
Kappa. King, forward, will not com
pete this year. However, Grace, his
running mate at forwerd will be in
the games. Andrews will be at cen
ter again. The two gimrds, who
showed probably the bent defensive
work of last season's tourney nre

ion; and Herbert Fritz, Burlington.
Honorable mention goes to Franklin
Mohler of Des Moines, Paul Righter
of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Walter
Sample of Port Byron, 111. Righter
won a numeral on the freshman foot
ball team as end and after the close
of the prep grid season reported for
cross country.

HARVARD ADOPTS NEW
ATTENDANCE SYSTEM
A new departure in regard to class
attendance was adopted at Harvard
this last spring. The rule reads as
follows: "Men on the dean's list, and
all seniors in good standing, are
trusted with the greater responsibil
ity and discretion in the matter of
attendance, so far as this docs not
interfere with the collective inter
ests of the classes to which they be
long."

Junior Women's Party
Silver Serpents, the Junior Wom
en's honorary, will hold a party for
all junior women January the thir
teenth. The plans have not been comple
ted, but the affair will probably be
a Hard-Time Party for all junior
women. The Silver Serpents are at
tempting to establish a' closer bond
of union between the girls in the
junior class. They also sponsored a
luncheon which was held in October.
