Manufacturer To Hara Machines Studied by UniTeriity Department An almost unknown law in the state of Nebraska is' the Tractor Testing law. Although little known, its benefits are begining to bo felt by most of the farmers of the state. This law compels all gasolino tractor manufacturers to have nil tractors tested thoroughly by the AKricultural Engineering Department of the Uni versity of Nebraska before they can be sold in the state. Since 1920, 120 tracton have been tested. Of this number, sixty-eight appeared the first year, sixty-f.ve of which were tested. Only 15.4 per cent of those tested passed the inspection. This test lasts from thirty to seventy hours and is very thorough and rigid. Fourteen machines appeared in 12)21, five in 1922, fourteen In 1H23, ten in 1925, and twenty-five so far this year. During 1924 r.nd 1925 all trac tors that were tested passed. This shows the value of the proposition, and that the farmers of the state are now assured of a machino that will come up to specifications that are advertised. Complete Rcord Kept During the teats of tno drawbar and pulley, a complete record is kept at all times. Tiiis record is later filed with the Agricultural Engineering Department office A copy is also fur nished the Nebraska State Railway Commission. Thsua records are kejjt open to the public at all times. The testing has become so efficient and- thorough thit tho plant is now known all over the world and maiy inquiries are received by the Agricul tural Engineering department con cerning these tests. These inquiries are from all over the United States and many are received from foreign countries. Foreign engineers have been known to make special trips from Chicago to inspect the tractor testing laboratories of the Univer sity, and to study tho law that gov ern the experiment al ng this line.
