STEPHENS IS ON THE LIST
Coach Schulte sent his proteges
through their final hard workout in
preparation for the M.ssouri Valley
meet at the Stadium last night. For
most of the squad the tapering off
for the week-end grind began, but
a lew went tnrougn. a moaeraieiy
stiff workout.
Stephens, the new sprint find,
was working hard on starting. His
10.1 time on the 100 the other night
was quite a surprise and Coach
Schulte is grooming him to run in
case Hein's leg is not in proper
shape.
Weight Men Slacken Work
The weight men have laid off of
hard work. All are in fine shape
with the exception of Pospisil. He
strained his back some time ago and
it is still bothering him. Kriemmel-
mever has a bad knee but it is not
expected to interfere with his work
with the weights.
Dopesters who thought the Husk
ers had a cinch on the meet were
worried when they began figuring
it up last night They could dope
Nebraska to win but it was by too
narrow a margin for comfort.
Men Should Be at Best
The whole season has been plan
ned with the idea of having the men
at their best, this week-end and with
but few exceptions they should be.
The minor injuries are all being tak
en care of by Doc McLean and his
staff.
Lots of starting for the sprinters
and hurdlers and pace work for the
distance men was the order for the
first part of the week. The jump
ers and vaulters have laid off now
until their workout in the meet.
Work was started yesterday to put
the track in shapt, a battery of man
agers working on the baclc-stretch
and curves and the inside lane.
More work will be done on it this
afternoon and by tomorrow if the
weather remains good, it should be
ready for the fast-stepping crew that
will be here.

Two more basoWl teams advanc
ed to tho semi-final round of the in
terfratemity series by their victor
ies yesterday.
Pi Kappa Phi, winner in Group II,
defeated Thcta Chi, champions of
Group I, 13 to 7. Tho Theta Chi
nine started off, leading for the first
five innings, but Pi Kappa Phi forg
ed out in front and won the contest
easily. Maaske pitched for the win
ners and held the Theta Chi sluggers
to six safeties. Schmidt caught
Maaske's offerings. Pi Kappa Fhi
made thirteen hits off Blessing, who
was the Theta Chi hurler. Sunder
land was catcher. ,
Delta Sigs Out
Kappa Sigma eliminated Delta
Sigma Delta in the play-off of the
game which was cut short at the
sixth inning. The teams agreed to
play the remaining three innings. At
the end of the sixth frame, the score
stood 5 to 4 in favor of the Kappa
Siis. The Delta Sigs started off in
a fashion dangerous to Kappa Sig
ma, scoring three runs in the first
inning played today. However, the
Kappa Sigs came back and pushed
over four tallies in the next frame
The contest was safe for them from
then on, as they scored twice more
in the ninth, making the total 11 to
7 for Kappa Sigma.
Ekstrom was the Kappa Sig hurl
er, and held the opposing batters to
four hits. Othmer was on the re
ceiving end of the victorious battery.
The Delta Sigs used four pitchers,
although the Kappa Sigs only nicked
them for eight safeties. Harding,
Beckman, Brown and Tomes was the
Delta Sig battery.
