Twenty Years Ago
What was to have been a song
service at convocation, turned out to
be a general jollification meeting.
Professors made speeches and stu
dents gave yells, making it the most
interesting convocation of the year.
The gymnasium exhibition was one
of the best of the year. The largest
crowd of the year gathered in the
Armory every seat was occupied
and people were standing. The ex
hibition was as much of a success fi
nancially, as $100 was cleared, mak
ing enough that the gymnastic team
ould go to Madison, Wisconsin.
Captain Workizer decided upon the
medals to be given at competitive
drill. Besides the regular medals
given to those winning in individual
competition, he added a trumpet for
the best in the squad.
The varsity girls defeated the al
umnae at basketball. Miss Pound
and Mrs. Clapp gathered in all their
proteges from over the state for the
contest, but they were unable to
conquer the Varsity girls. The score
of the game was 21-19.
The Farm Library was moved into
new quarters. Miss Conipton com
pleted the moving, and the library
was established in the new building
which was fitted especially for it
Dr. Clapp gathered the track men
together in Memorial Hall to get the
proper spirit to develop a team. The
work was launched by a light work
out in the gymnasium and a few
stunts on the field.
For the first time in the history
of amateur entertainment in Lin
coln, the performers completed every
little detail of their program and

Ten Years Ago
Miss Helen Burnett gave an ad
dress on Journalism at the women's
vocational conference. She said for
a life of excitement, a life to ex
pand every day and have a hand in
the writing c the daily history of the
world, the newspaper business was
the best of all. -For a joy of labor
it had a great reward, but there was
no profession demanding so much
training, and giving so little remun
eration. Frank Byerly, a well known photo
grapher and naturalist, gave an il
lustrated lecture on the beauties of
Estes Park. For over an hour he
held the attention of the audience

The engineering students made
plans for an Engineering Week be
ginning in April. It wn to begin
with the Engineer's hop on the first
night, then there was a convocation,
a special edition of The Nebraskan,
a smoker, Engineer's night and a
banquet
Although a small percentage of
tho senior class are members of fra
ternities, almost 60 per cent of the
students elected to Phi Beta Kappa
are Greek letter people. Five of the
fourteen men and eleven of the twen
ty women students were members ofa
fraternities.
