Oklahoma University with a per
fect record to date is "all alone" at
the top of the Valley standings with
seven games won and none lost. Ne
braska, previously tied with the
Sooners for the lead, lost a hard
fought game to Kansas Saturday
night and as a result is in second
place.
Four teams are still in the running
for the conference championship, al
though none of the four have as rosy
prospects as the Sooners. Oklahoma
still has five games to play and may
slip up in one of them, especially
when they meet the Kansas Jay-
hawks.
Nebraska, Kansas, and the Okla
homa Aggies are still in the running
and the way the dope has been up
set this season, there is no telling how
the teams will finish.
Schmidt, leading scorer in the Val
ley, was stopped in the Nebraska
game Saturday, but in spite of this
he continues to lead the pack. Moran
of Grinnell has climbed in second
place, just six points behind the Kan
sas man.
Analysis of the Missouri Valley
statistics show that Oklahoma is first
in scoring ability, with Kansas and
the Oklahoma Aggies tied for second
honors. Nebraska is sixth. Defens
ively, the Cornhuskers have made
the best showing. In six games, Ne
braska has held its opponents to an
average of 17.2 points. Kansas ranks
second with an average of 20.2 points
scored against it per game.

IN THE VALLEY

"Zim" and "Zim"
Nebraska Half-Miler,
Dressed in Track Suit
Lost in Kansas City
Major Griffith, commissioner of
the Big Ten conference, recently
spoke at the opening of the new gym
nasium at Kemper Militory Academy,
Booneville, Missouri. Mr. Griffith
has been connected with athletics for
many years, and consequently Is Tory
competent in his discussion of the
college games.
His remarks on the present situ
ation of athletics should have some
weight as an argument against the
idea of over emphasis of competitive
competition among the colleges. Ma
jor Griffith pointed out that, in the
most part,' jealousy was responsible
for the comments. Jealous, because
their own field of activity has not
developed as rapidly in past years.
But the big idea put across by the
originator of the Drake relays was
that in this day it Is essential that
there he a great expansion in physi
cal training. Mr. Griffith has been
connected with the army of the Unit
ed States enough to know that sta
tistics prove mora men who have been
given physical examinations by the
government have been physically de
fective, than the number who were
found sound in body.
It is an admitted fact that the pro
fessional game does not open the way
for every man to take part in the
paid game. The greatest athletes of
the paid game are sought out and
hired. The rest sit in the stands and
watch the contests.
It is a different proposition in the
colleges of the country. Coaches
who ever hope to build great teams
know that competition is the factor
front. This being the case, the great
which brings the great athlete to the
coach devotes his time to making it
possible for every man to compete in
a given sport. The college coach
picks out and develops the great
athlete, and in order to do this, he
must have a bis field to chooe
from.
To accommodate a large number
of men much equipment is necess
ary. The stadium and field house
are answers to that. Increased in
tcrest in the college sporta and in
creased growth, is well founded, and
worth while. It is the route through
which the physical well-being of the
young men of this nation will be tak
en care of.
Interfraternity games are a part of
the Nebraska system of athletics.
Annually, Coach Schulte calls a great
number of men into the track sport
through the contests held each
spring. I he numeral system is an
other devise, which is more expans
ive and open to every man who cares
to take part in track. The Husker
track mentor makes only one require
ment of any student who wishes to
go out for track. He asks him to
work, and as the equipment issued
to him by the athletic department
While the track team was return
ing from the meet in Kansas City,
an event happened similar to Wcstou-
pal's adventure in Chicago during the
football season a year ago.
The team left immediately after
the relay race to catch their rain.
To save time to get a lunch before
loavlnir. thev went to the depot in
their track suits. Coach Schulte
found all present and went to get
some sandwiches. Upon his return
they immediately boarded the train
for home. Johnson, sophomore half
miler, it was discovered, was not
with them. In the shuffle he had
missed connections.
The Kansas basketball team was on
the same train coming to Lincoln for
their game with the Huskers. A
Kansas basketball man asked Coach
Allen where Captain Belgard was.
Upon further search, it was found
that he had also been lost in the
shuffle.
Johnson caught a later train and
Captain Belgard was found. John
son, however, must have felt queer
sauntering around the depot in a
track suit.
screen presentation of primitive pas
sion vibrant with thrills. Rod La
Rocque, the featured star, is sup
ported by Lillian Rich, Robert Ede
son, Tyrone Power, and Jean Acker.
Good comedy, news, and topical pic
tures and The Indian Bard, Shwas-Nce-Shee-Noo,
"America's foremost
Indian tenor," precede the feature
picture. A brilliant musical pro
gram will be rendered by Earnest
Harrison's Lyric orchestra and Mrs.
May M. Mills, organist.

Meet, Set For Friday, May Be Post
poned Until Saturday
Evening
The Nebraska wrestling team will
meet the University of Kansas grap
plers this week in the third dual
meet of the season. The meet was
scheduled for Friday, but may be
postponed to Saturday, as there is
work being done in the Field House,
where the matches will be held.
The Huskers are ready to meet the
K. U. matmen, and are in good con
dition, with the exception of Captain
Highley. The Husker leader had hit
shoulder wrenched last week when
Voltmer, of the Iowa team, got a
double wristlock and a twisting ham
merlock. There will be tryouta held this
week, in all probability, between
Karrer and Blore in the 115 pound
class and between Weber and Buck
in the 125 pound class. It is possible
that a match will be scheduled for
108 pounds.
The Missouri grapplers will be seen
in action here February 20. This
dual meet was supposed to have been
held February 5
Twenty Years Ago

building., The building .vas not
ready for occupation at the begin
ning of the second semester.
The class sweaters that were won
byhe sophomore class football team
arrived. They were fine gray vest
sweaters with the numerals '08 on
them in red.
The University Athletic Board
held a short meeting in Dr. Clapp's
office during the convocation to dis

There were many applicants and the
matter was left to the football com

A few drops of Glostora impart
that bright, brilliant, silky sheen,

will fairly sparkle- and glow with
natural gloss and lustre.
A largo bottle of Glostora costs
