New Pistol Equipment

Carnival a few weeks ago broke
down before he junior cadet officers
were able to display their superiority
in marksmanship over the senior
officers .The matter must soon be
settled now, as a challenge was hurl
ed Friday at the seniors by the
juniors under CapUin Victor G.
Huskoa. Pistol Practice for the ad
vanced course cadets starts this
week, and the scores will decide
which class is more expert with the
frontier shooting iron.
Ohio State University has three
letter men back for the rifle team
this winter. The team will compete
in the Western Conference. A ten
Utive schedule has been arranged
with twelve western and eastern universities.
Polo and fencing are two other
miliUry sports at Ohio SUte Univer
sity besides rifle shooting. The fenc
ing team will have as coach a man
who studed the sport n France last
summer. The polo team s in need of
additional good horses.

PRACTICE BEGINS
Women's Athletic Association Urges
More Womem to Try out for
Teems
The Women's Athletic Association
opened the soccer season last week
with the good number out for
the first practice. Soccer is new to
some of the students, but the associ
ation is desirous of more women be-!
coming interested in the sport.
Freshmen women are especially in
vited, and more senior women will
have to come out or there will not be
enough to make a senior team.
The nights for practices are:
Monday-Sophomore.
Tuesday general.
Wednesday junior and senior.
Thursday freshmen.
Friday general.
The list is posted on the WT. A. A.
bulletin board in the west Armory.
Completion of the ten necessary prac
tices gives twenty-five points. In
making a class team or being a substi
tute, fifty, seventy-five, or one hun
dred poinU are possible. All points
are awarded according to the players
ability.

Dean W. E. Sealock of Teachers'
College gave an educational-week ad
dress at McCook last Sunday even
ing on "Schools of Yesterday and Today."
Covering Planned
The football playing field of the
University of Illinois at Champaign,
will be covered with a rubberized ma
terial, protecting it from rain, George
Huff, athletic director, is planning
to install this covering at a cost of
$10,000 or $12,000. A similar cov
ering is used by hte major league
baseball clubs.
Sorority Ratings
A rating of sororities according
to activities is published at Syracuse.
The data is compiled on a basis of an
activity uoint system, the number of
activity points aggregated being di
vided by the toUl membei-ship of
each house.
The University of Montana is one
of the few colleges in the country
that has three official colors for its
athletic teams. The colors are cop
per, silver, and gold, representing the
colors of the three principle minerals
of the state.

we glean a moBt curious bit of news.
The message sUtes that the Univer
sity for the first time in iU existence
recently cleared money on a football
game played on their home field. In
a recent game the expenses were
three hundred dollars and the gate
amounted to three hundred and nine
teen dollars, leaving a net profit of
nineteen dollars.
Fordyce Speaks at Syracuse
Dr. Charles Fordyce of the depart
ment of educational psychology and
measurements gave an educational
week address at Syracuse last Sunday
evening.
