When an un reasonable amount of library reading; ts assigned in any course, that In structor may be reasonably sure that the student will not read every assignmtntj though ho may, and probably will, turn in a cport on all these readings. In this Instance a member of the faculty in directly encouraging dishonesty. Yet this same person will probably lecture to his class on the evil of dishonesty, and say he will turn in a failure for any of his students who are caught practicing evil. Is such a policy as this consistent? Is it playing the game squarely? Our instructors know what a reasonable amount of outside reading is; they were once students as we are now. If these instructors would have their students pursue the honest pol icy, they should be more reasonable in their assignments of outside read ings. Needless to say, the forthcom ing results would be better for them and the students also. University Daily Kansan. SENIOR3 Many problems face the departing seniors. Grades, examinations, good bye to friends, commencement prepa rations, jobs, and son on. Not the least of tho burdens which weighs on his mind however, is the thought that he ought to leave behind him some small portion of scholarly wis dom that will be of use to his cus- ccssors. How to get 34 hours work accomp lished in 24. How to step gracefully from a class while the instructor is putting a postlude on the whistle. How to arrive late and when to make the seasonal early appearance. When to call the Instructor "prof." and when not to call hlra anything. The best plan to use in arranging those appealing little after class confer ences around the professionl desk. What classes should a freshman choose, a sophomore, a junior, a se nior? The departing senior has wis dom here that an army of advisers might envy and never learn. What is the perfect ration between convo cation attendance and Attendance elsewhere? How many cups of cof fee equal one perfect quiz? Many, many other problems the se nior has solved, or at least confronted and made his decision. He would be glad to hand on his knowledge to the underlings. But he knows they would not listen. Ignorance is bliss and blias is the completion to a happy understanding of life. The underclassman will learn his lessons soon enough. He, too, will soon be a senior. The University Daily Kansan. The Minnesota Union has be gun a college song campaign at the University of Minnesota by offer ing a prize of $50 for the best text and another prize of $50 for the best music. The members believe it is impossible to stimulate real singing and enthusiasm with the two songs which they now have 'The Houser" and the Minnesota "Hail to Thee." The committee is trying to get an attractive collection of songs which students will want to sing and hum continually. University students are indeed very fortunate In having such a show as the Morris Castle Shows which are performing for the week at Fifth and A Streets under the auspices of the Lincoln Shriners.
