Coach Kline's Nebraska University
basketball tossers maintained their
knot with the Washington University
hoopsters for the leadership of the
Missouri Valley cage race following
the results of the five contests last
week. Kansas pried the lid off the
Jayhawk court season with a win
from Drake by the score of 49 to 14
and stepped into a triple knot with
the Huskers and the St. Louis ar
tists, with percentages perfect.
Either Nebraska or Kansas will
drop out of the clean slate division
this week since the two quintets meet
on the southerner's floor Friday
night. The squad leaves for a three
game trip starting Thursday, meeting
the Aggies that night, the Kansas
champions Friday, and Oklahoma
Saturday night. The outcome of
these three contests "make or break"
Nebraska titular chances. Of the

THE DAILY
five games carded for the coming
week, Nebraska will partake in the
trio of toughest mixes.
Tonight Oklahoma meets Kansas
and may cause last years champs to
drop the clean record before meet
ing the locals. In the first game
for the Jayhawks, Drake fell to the
tune of 49 to 14 but a good account
of the game states that the Bull
dogs could not sink the Leather and
that only one trial out of every
four registered. Oklahoma on the
following evening took the Des
Moines five down by a 44 to 28
score and assures a hot test between
the two upper division teams. In
the other conference contest Wash
ington is expected to have little
trouble against Ames.
Missouri Loses Four
Last week Missouri, runners up
to Kansas in the Valley scramble
lost its fourth game in as many
starts leaving the upper hand in the
grasp of Nebraska, Kansas and
Washington. Should Oklahoma de
feat both its opponents this week
the Indians would ride into the title
ring. Three victories for Nebraska
would put the Huskers ahead of
Washington and make things easy
sailing until the second Kansas Twist
at the Colosium January 26. .
The fifty-fifty condition in the
Valley still exists. Last week Grin
nell and Oklahoma had averages of
.500 and both teams had scored as
many points as their opponents,
while this week the standings show
Ames to have taken hold of the even
figures.
From early exhibitions of Valley
cagesters, comparative scores show
very little. The title is anyone's.
It is likely that the per cent column
will undergo several decisive changes
at the end of this week.
Wrestling Try outs
to Be Held Tonight
Try-outs for Nebraska's Varsity
wrestling team will be held this after
noon from 4 to 6 in the Armory.
One mat performer will be chosen
to represent the University in each
of the seven weight events against
Northwestern at Evanston January
26. The coaching staff wishes any
person interested in the mat game to
try-out. All participants should
weigh in at 11 o'clock in the Athletic
offices.

CAGESTERS PREPARE
FOR FOREIGN GAMES
Coach Kline Not Sure Yet Who
Will Make First Journey
with Squad.
The basket-shooting Cornhuskers
went through their last workout on
the gym floor Tuesday afternoon in
preparation for their road trip. Al
though a short session will be held
Wednesday in which they will be
given a final opportunity to hit the
basket, they will not be put through a
scrimmage.
The team will leave here early
Thursday morning and will be more
or less train-weary in their first Val
ley game on a foreign floor.
Tuesday's practice consisted most
ly of new out-of-bounds plays and
other offensive plays that the team
is planning on springing on the op
positing valley teams on the trip.
