Basketball prosnccts are or-trimr better day by day at the Huaker school and the first nractic lumo of the season comes December 29, in Kansas City against the best semi- pro team in the middlewest, namely tho "Blue Diamonds." This tonm has a record that bears honor and they will function perfectly in en- deavoring to take Nebraska's meas ure. The squad will leave Lincoln the day after Christmas and go directly to Kansas City where they will have all the privileges of the K. C. A. C. and the use of the big gymnasium and basketball floor, on which they will hold all their practices up to the day of the first game. Hardly any change has been made in the daily workouts. New plays are being mastered every day and the squads are going through their strenuous scrimmages. The comb ination that has been in action the last few days is Captain Usher, Co zier, Black, Tipton, Volz, Schroeder, Goodson, Close and Olds. There has been no special team used. Members of this group are picked and used in different combinations. The coach ing staff is working to build an eight or ten man team. Whenever a coach gets his team to working as well with one man at a certain position as it does when there is another one there he has ac complished the ultimate and that is the aim of Coach Kline. The team will practice here Thurs day, Friday and Saturday and will then have a short vacation. They will report again Wednesday to leave for Kansas City. Valley Wrestling Meet to be Held at Ames in March A Missouri Valley Conference wrestling meet will be held thin year at Ames March 7 and 8, coaches and managers of tho wrestling teams in the Valley schools decided at a meet ing held two weeks ago at Kansas City. Freshmen basketball candidates will bo given their final workout be fore Christmas vacation tomorrow afternoon and according to Coach Owen Frank there will be no first year practice in the holidays as was announced several weeks ago. Yes terday afternoon the frosh mentor sent his proteges through a stiff drill consisting of more fundamentals in eluding pivoting, dribbling, and floor work. Six freshmen auintets have been reporting regularly and the average turnout so far this season has been better than that of the first-year candidates for several years. Follow ing the Christmas vacation Coach Frank will resume practice and from then on the freshmen will probably scrimmage the varsity cagesters daily. However, there will be no picked team of yearlings. This evening another workout re sembling that of Wednesday after noon is carded with the final scrim masre comine Friday. Freshman material is srradually sifting into the limelitrht with nightly drubbings and several promising hoopmen are com ing to the front as likely varsity pro sDects for next season. Yesterday afternoon Coach Kline witnessed the brand of floor work ex hibited by several fives and pro nounced the court exhibition good for so early in the season. During the past few weeks the turnout has been so large that little individual instruction has been given but when play is resumed after, vacation special attention will be given the frosh artists. . The freshmen will practice tonight at 7:30. Friday practice may be post poned. This will be decided tonight by the performers themselves, Coacn Frank announced. University of Southern Cal ifornia Officials Insist on Game at Los Angeles. After being offered the golden end of the rule the University of Southern California turns back the offer because Nebraska insisted that the Trojans come east for Thanks giving game next year. California could only see the football game in her own stadium next year and Ne braska, making the offer, insisted upon a Turkey day game in the Ne braska memorial stadium. California football teams have but a few times given eastern teams a chance to meet them on foreign soil.' The cry from the. western coast is a Christmas or a New Year game, played many weeks after the season has closed and the men have fallen out of the football atmosphere. California is king of the forest west of the mountains, but the "Big Three" were the high men before they became democratic enough to allow promising invaders a place on their schedule. A University of Southern Cali fornia game at Nebraska next year would have almost equalled a Notre Dame game and would have probably been played under about the same conditions. The Trojans and Bears will probably always be bears as long as they stay west of the Rockies, but middle western invasions have proven disastrous to many proud football teams. Education Director Addresses Ag Students Mr. Fuller, director of state vo cational education, addressed pros pective teachers and vocational edu cation students of the Agricultural College in Agricultural Hall Tues day evening. His subject was "Ne braska's Program of Vocational Edu cation." After discussing the progress of vocational education and the pre judices against it because of its new ness he developed the present pro gram. This program consists of a federal board of four members, a staff com posed of a director, chief of agri culture, chief of trades and indus tries and a chief of home economics. Each state has a state board. Tho Nebraska state board consists of Dean E. A. Burnett, Mr. Matzen, state superintendent of schools, and Governor Bryan. The program in Nebraska is di vided into three classes of schools. One is tho day schools for student who have not entered their life work. Home economics schools are in this group. The night schools are for persons employed in business. These are mostly trade schools. The third class of vocational education schools holds part time classes for those who work part time. A great deal of the present unrest is thought to be caused by persons who have dropped out of school. Figures show that only thirteen out of every hundred people are gradu ated from high school.
