ROCKNE ALSO HOLDS INTENSIVE PRACTICES The varsity warriors continued their strenuous workout behind closed gates Wednesday in almost final ef forts to stop Notre Dame's winning streak. The Irish have won every game they have been in this year and from every conflict they have emerged with their colors streaming and quite a margin in their favor in the scoring column. Th'is year when they meet the "Fighting CornhuBkerB" they will have to their advantage experience nd prestige, while the Cornhuskers will have on their side a little mar gin in bsef, a fighting team and a fighting student body. The Irish have been using line punging and end running and prac tically discarded the cerial work that has made them famous but they still know how to use it. Every man'n the Irish team is in the best physical fettle and is rarin' to get another stab at Nebraska and get revenge for the decisive defeat handed them by the Cornhuskers last year. Coach Rocknc is not at all satis fied with showing his team made against Purdue last Saturday and Intensive drilling has been on the card every afternoon this week in preparation for the Saturday conflict He regards Nebraska as one foe who has to be reckoned with in every sense of the word and the whole team are making every cautious prep aration possible before they meet iheir last year's victors. Just what will be the outcome of Head Coach Dawson's secret work out is beyond guessing. It is a phy sical impossibility to know' what is going on out there. He may be fig uring on an entire netw lineup and we are sure he is going to drop a few of the new plays he has had up his sleeve all season. As far as Notre Dame's trick plays are concerned they are mostly bear dope. Their trick playing is featur ing the psychological aspects. They send out the bunk that they have a lot of trick plays and when they have their opponents, standing back there guessing what kind of a play they are going to work next, they shoot a pay straight through the line or around the ends. Nebraska is going to have a couple of these uitf orseen plays and well let the Irish guess. Detwiler's Sanitary LUNCH 133 No. 12th St. We Cater to Students. I) I Nebraska basketball could maintain its standing in the Valley. "And now when we suddonly find Mr. Kline is available, Mr. Thiesen said he would be only too glad to step down in favor of Mr. Kline. . Ross (Mac) McGlasson is playing his third year as varsity lineman. Mac has played both tackle and guard on the team but this yea Coach Dawson is using him as a side kick to Berquist in the guarding game. Mac's stonewall defense has stopped many onslaughts and his ability to make holes has enabled the backs to plunge through the line for good gains. Mac played tackle on Lincoln High for four years. The last year he collected for himself "all-state" hon ors from ell football writers. His home is in Lincoln. He is a mem ber of Kappa Sigma, and the N club Mac is an engineer. , SECURE KLINE TO COACH GAGE TEAM FIGHT, NEBRASKA, FIGHT I They didn't have football teams when Tommy a Kempis wrote hit (tuff, but the old monk said a thought-full when he declared! "Often thoie who stand highest in, the es teem of men fall the more grievously because of their over great confidence." Tommy must have had v the Cornhuskers in mind also when he advised, " Commune with your heart in your own cham ber and be still." We're not bragging or preening ourselves just now, but watch us Sat urday night 1 FIGHT NOTRE DAME Dawson Says Selection the Re sult of Loyalty of Ralph Thiesen W. G. Kline, former Illinois athlete has been appointed head basketball coach at Nebraska. Kline was atn letic director at Nebraska during the S. A. T. C. year and from here he went to Florida. He is in Lincoln now and is ready to take immediate charge of the cagesters "and get them going in full swing. Ralph Thiesen who has been in charge of the squad has turned the work over to Kline. The following stelement was issued by Director of Athletics Dawson: "Through Ralph Thiesen's splen did spirit, loyalty to the University and eagerness that we have the best available coaches, we have engaged W. G. Kline as basketball coach for this year. "In the first place Ralph Thiesen did not apply for the position. I went to him personally and explained to him that it was impossible for us to secure the man we wanted for the job. "Reluctantly. Mr. Thiesen agreed to step into the beach and do what he could to handle the situation, at the same time saying we were en titled to a more experienced coach. In fact he said that we should have the best coach in the country so that BOWLING The Healthful Sport" Eight regulation alleys. Phone for reservation for your bowling parties. The Nebraska-Notre Dame game will be the biggest game on tap for Armistice Day, as a glimpse of the schedule soon shows. The games will attract nation wide attention for two reasons. First, Nebraska has scored against Notre Dame and defeated them more times in the past 9 years than any other team. Second the game brings together two of the lead ing teams in the United States and will give opportunity for comparing the Irish squad with one of the lead ing western elevens. Advanced ticket sales indicate that every seat in the stadium will be oc cupied, the largest crowd that has ever witnessed a Nebraska football game. The University of California for four years leading contenders for the national championship, plays at Uni versity of California South Branch at Los Angeles. This will be the most important game on the coast.
