GAMES SATURDAY

Week Draw Interest of
Football Enthusiasts.
Last Saturday's football games
saw many of the best teams in the
country in action. The game on

Practically all of of Nebraska's
coming opponents for the season
swung into action Saturday. Notre
Dame won from Lombard by a score
of 14 to 0. Syracuse won an easy
contest from Williams and Mary
college 01 to 3. This score however
is no indication of the ability of the
Syracuse eleven, as William and
Mary is not formidable.
The Kansas Aggies took an easy
opener from Washburn 28 to 0 while
Kansas U won a hard fought game
from Creighton by a lone touchdown.
The Kansas-Creighton game was
played in a drizzling rain, making
both sides fumble a great fcdeal.
Creighton meets another Missouri
Valley team next week when it tan
gles with the Kansas Aggies at Man
hattan.
Ames narrowly missed winning
from Minnesota at Minneapolis play
ing the Minnesotans a 20 to 17
game. Other Big Ten teams that
were held to low scores by small
schools were, Chicago 10, Colorado
Aggis 0 and Wisconsin 7, Coe 3.
Oklahoma will play' its first game
of the' season when it meets Ne
braska at the stadium Saturday.
This will also be Nebraska's first
Valley contest. Illinois will take
on Butler-next Saturday and Iowa
the week following. After their
decisive defeat of Nebraska Illini is
being counted upon by its backers
to win the Big Ten conference title.
. Notre Dame will play its first big
game of the season with the Army
at West Point. This game will be the
center of interest next Saturday.
Ames will be at Missouri, Kansas will
take on Oklahoma A. & M., Kansas
Aggies have Crefghton, Drake plays

GORNHUSKERS WORK
BEHIND SHUT GATES
Scarlet and Crenm Eleven Uses
New Formations in Se
cret Practice.
Behind closed gates, the Corn-
husker moleskin warriors went thru
a stiff workout Monday afternoon,
consisting of a series of new forma
tions and fundamentals. Coach
Dawson divided the gridstem into
several squads, all of which he kept
under his personal supervision dur
ing the practice. The workout was
filled with the old-time Husker fight,
which bodes ill for the Sooner inva
sion Saturday.
The Oklahoma contest Saturday
will open the home season for the
Scarlet and Cream eleven. It will
be the first home game of the sea
son, in addition to being the first
contest in the new Memorial stdium.
The Husker coaching staff is work
ing overtime preparing for the
Soo'ner game. Benny Owen's "for
ward passing Sooners" never fail to
furnish the Huskers stiff competi
tion, and so the Nebraska mentors
are making a determined effort to
strengthen the weak spots in the
Scarlet eleven which were uncovered
in the Illinois contest last Saturday.
Maude Vedder, B. Sc., has been
appointed instructor in Home Eco
nomics. Instruction in entomology
will be given by Don B. Whelan, M.
Sc., who takes the place of It. W.
Dawson, who is working on his doc
torate at the University of Minnesota.
Green Buttons Put Freshmen 1
Girls in Class by Themselves
Pity the poor freshmen men! By
the laws of custom they must wear
the emblems of their verdancy on
their heads even if they have red
hair.
But the freshmen girls rjdicule
such a monotonous custom. They
have enthusiastically adopted the
green '27 button as a new and charm
ing ornament. Upper class women
gaze enviously at the new co-eds
who can flaunt the latest fad which
the authorities have placed beyond
all others' reach.
One proud- freshmen girl displays
the button from a mass of brown
bobbed hair. Another has attached
it to a watch ribbon and wean. it.
about her wrist. Others have made
pendants to toy with carelessly when
being quizzed by an unsympathetic
professor and so on and so on.
