Dawson pitted the varsity against
the freshman football team in a
stiff workout on the stadium field
Tuesday afternoon. The Varsity
took the defense and the freshmen
charged them with the Illinois plays
which they have been practicing on
their own field. .
The team picked by Coach Daw
spn was McAllister and Rhodes ends,
Weir and Bassett tackles, Ogden
and Berquist guards, Huchinson cen
ter, and Captain Lewellen and Dave
Noble defensive halfbacks, Herb De
witz quarter, and Hartman fullback.
At first the Frosh charged for short
gains but soon their methods of at
tack were unraveled and the Varsity
held them on most every play.
Prospects have picked up in the
Cornhusker camp in regard to Sat
urday's game with Illinois. Although
Illinois is sending out a lot of "bear"
dope in regard to the game, telling
what an advantage the Cornhuskers
have over the green Illinois team, the

coaches are remembering that altho
Nebraska is the conqueror of Notre
Dame, there were many stars who
played their last game for Nebraska
and consequently new men must be
whipped into shape, a task which is
very perplexing. The stars who
played their last game with Ne
braska last year were Captain Hart
ley, Scherer, Schoepple, Thomson,
Wen:e, Weller, Russell, Hoy and
Peterson. By scanning the list one
can see the handicap Nebraska has.
Illinois has a letter man for almost
every position although they state
they have only one man in the back-
field.
The stiff line scrimmages that
have been held lately are doing much
in developing front wall material.

Berquist, Ogden, Hutchinson, Mc
Allister, Rhodes, Westopoul, Mc-
Glasson, Packer, Hendrickson, Hal-
berslaben, Collins, Robertson, Reed,
the coaches can no doubt pick a com
bination that can stop the terrible
onslaught that Illinois is preparing
to make against the Huskers Satur
day. The wall prospects are perking
up, practise by practise.
The final scrimmage before the
first game will be open to the pub
lic on the stadium field this afternoon.
