Mitchell Vlllium Cord Assistant Night Editor To those who close a long connec tion with the Daily Nebraskan with the publication of this last issue of the year, the opinion of an Idaho editor on the requirements for a col lege editor is full of meaning. He says : A college editor should be a super man endowed with the patience o( Job, the editorial ability of Horace Greely, the managing and directing ability of Charles Schwab, the diplo macy of Woodrow Wilson, the judicial qualities of former Chief Justice Mar shall; he needs the keen humor of Lincoln, the dignity and philosophy of Socrates, the agnostic tendencies of Ingersoll; he should have the literary ability of Shakespeare, and the lack of conscience of Amy Lowell. In addition to these few qualifica tions he needs the physique of Jack Dempsey, the nerve of a hold-up man, and Edison's ability to do without sleep. His brain should be so con stituted that he could absorb the es sentials of a twenty-credit course by means of barest perusal of the sub jects contained and to pass the final exams with honors so that the faculty will respect him and allow him to stay in school. He should be abso lutely foreign to the needs of rest, sleep, eating, recreation, the love of society, the inclination for glory in athletics, school activities, and love. Having these few requirements, he should be able to qualify as a fairly competent editor, and there is a pos sibility that he should not be hauled on the faculty carpet more than once a week and kicked by the student body in general more than twice a week. The thought which we are all asked to keep in mind throughout the sum mer is "I must pay my stadium pledge promptly". Actual work on the stadium site has progressed to a point where all can know that Nebras ka's athletic dream is coming true and the stadium will be the scene of all the home football games on the 1923 schedule. The appeal of the stadium commit tee for cash payments before Univer sity closes to save interest payments on loans has been carried before the whole student body. Of those who have already loyally responded, some have paid a second fifth, some made second and third payments, and others have paid their entire pledge. Every payment counts. Pay now, if pos sible, but early in the summer is not now. Each day sees te selection of more new organization members and offi cers for the coming year. With each selection goes a certain honor and recognition of vast services. But the elections are not to be regarded mere ly as a reward for past services but rather as new opportunities to work for the University. Too often, newly elected members in campus organizations fail to see the other side of their honors. Recog nition of meritorious services is fit ting, but campus organizations can not maintain their usefulness and at the same time be made up of those who consider their duties concluded. Let each election, then, be regarded as a new responsibility to a trust and let that trust be the constant unselfish boosting of the Scarlet and the Cream. One more task remain 3 for Corn husker students to accomplish before the curtain falls upon what may be consiaered as the greatest year in the history of Nebraska U. The grat achievements of the year which is fast drawing to a close are clearly reflected in the spirit of the students. Loyalty to Nebraska has never been shown by undergraduates here better than during this year. It only remains to show to Nebraska alumni what changes have taken place since last September. Doubtless reports of the success of the stadium drive, and of Missouri Valley championships have reache moMt Nebraska . alumni. But their first opportunity to see for themselves the new spirit of the students comes next week during the Cornhusker Roundup celebration. . All Nebraska students are urged to stay for the Roundup Week festivl ties. With a 100 per cent showing of Nebraska spirit, a fitting climax to a successful year may be witnessed by hundreds of returned Nebraska grad uates and ex-students.
