THE DAILY NEBRASKA N CALIFORNIA WRITER PRAISES NEBRASKA Many Complimentary Things Said About Husker Team and Work of Coach Dawson. A letter' enclosinp a clipping from the sport pape of a prominent Los Anpeles daily was recently received by the Daily Nehraskan. The letter was from a former Nebraska man. row a resident in California, and the clipping shows the interest which Cal ifornia sport writers are takinp in the athletic teams of Nebraska. The track meet between Nebraska and California in which Nebraska will en pape durinp their western trip is spoken of. and it would seem that this track meet is elecitinp nearly as much interest as the proposed foot ball fames between the two schools, which are also mentioned in the ar ticle. The California sport writer speaks in the most complimentary terms of the University of Nebraska, its ath letic teams, and of the work that Coach Fred Dawson is doinp in es tablishing Nebraska's gridiron reputa tion. Spoakinp of the possibilities of a stronp football team for next year, the writer says, "Despite the fact that Coach Dawson lost eleven strong men by graduation, he has the material for another formidable outfit. Only one man. an end. of the '22 class of freshmen made the varsity last fall. By this you can more readly under stand w'.tr.t Lincoln is losing." Many obstacles would impair the consummation of jjuch a contract, among them, the necessity for pro curing the consent of the Missouri Conference board of control, but a home schedule of the kind proposed would do much to further assist in the establishing of Nebraska's record as an institution of the highest rank, and it is apparent that California papers are championing the cause of Nebraska. William Jennings Bryan, with other prominent Nebraska men, are spoken of as desirous of seeing the Nebraska team fight upon California soil, and the clipping pithily says, "and what they want they usually get." When the track squad leaves this week the Huskers will be making thoir initial invasion of the West, and it is certain that the work that they do in competition there will increase the Los Angeles paper's belief in the r.bility of Nebraska athletic teams. It's perversity that begets adversity. HASEBALL SQUAD IS GETTING !N SHAPE FOR HARD SEASON (Continued from page 1.) at which they swing in lieu 'of the horsehide. This also helps materially in putting power into their batting swing. The Huskers leave in a few days for Morman, Oklahoma, where they begin their season April 1 and 2 with games against the University of Oklahoma.
