One of the biggest events of the
college year has come, welcomed by
thousands itf University students and
hundreds of high school students here
for the thirteenth annual high school
basketball tournament.
Oour visitors have an excellent
chance to see the University in ac
tion and our hope is that they will
make their decision soon to come to
Nebraska. The fame of our alumni
and of our great undergraduate ath
letic teams has spread afar and the
hope of future Cornhusker fame rests
in the thousands of men and women
in the high schools which our visitors
represent.
Good clean sportsmanship the
motto of Nebraska athletics will no
doubt be an outstanding feature of
the high school tournament, as it has
been in the dozen preceding contests
under the auspices of the University.
No efforts have been spared to pro
vide first-class officials and to elim
inate all possible obstacles to smooth
sailing competition. The contestants
will, without doubt, uphold the fine
records of the other tourneys and
allow nothing to happen on the play
ing floor that does not typify the best
in athletics.
The development of the spirit of
fair play and of team work is one
of the finest results of the annual
contest. Anything not up to this high
standard of sportsmanship should not
be expected or contenanced.

Grouping of spring events into nine
days, from May 11 to 19, is being con
sidered at Michigan University. The
Student Council is in favor of a
Spring Week which will include track
meet, games, and programs.
Perhaps the greatest change to be
noticed on the campus since the 1922
basketball tournament is on the ath
letic field. Since the championship
game of the twelfth tournament, stu
dents, faculty members and alumni
of the University together with busi
ness men over the state Jiave raised
almost half a million dollars for a
huge memorial stadium for Nebraska.
Work to have the stadium ready
for occupance by the Homecoming
football game next fall has begun and
Is being pushed rapidly with the com
ing of warmer weather.
The campaign for stadium funds
has brought a greater Nebraska spirit
to the front. More loyalty to Ne
braska and less of factional strife
among the htudents is an accom
plished fact. The students have re
sponded in fine shape to the call to
put Nebraska to the front among the
great Universities of the country.
An event of no little importance in
connection with the stadium building
is thf remarkable way in which the
high schools of the state ha?e with
out solicitation given to the fund.
Hundreds of dollars have been sent
to the Alumni Association by the
high school students of Nebraska for
the great memorial to Nebraska's war
heroes. This interest in the growth
of Nebraska U. and the Cornhusker
spirit is a promising sign of a steady
forward advance of the University.
There's one nice thing about being
in jail. It isn't your job to worry
about heating the thing.
