A pre-election promise to the
students has been fulfilled with the
introduction in the legislature of a bill
pro-.i.iing that the Regents' Book
Store cannot sell to the students books
written by professors in the Univer
sity. Altho the bill was presented by
Representative Miten. chairman of
the I'niversity investigation commit
tee, the real author seems to be Mr.
Randall, present railroad commis
sioner.
Mr. Randall is a former State Sen
ator and was author of the bill creat
ing t'le Regents' Book Store, which
was deigned to save students money
by eliminating profits made by pri
vate book stores. He promised during
the November campaign to use his in
fluence? to have a bill introduced to
prevent, the sale of textbooks written
by Nebraska professors. He claims
that these professors are making a
royalty off of each sale.
Part of the program of the alumni!
association is one sten nearer com-'
pletion with the introduction, on the
last day set aside for presentation of
bills in the House, of a bill designed
to hasten construction of dormitories
near the campus.
Tho plan proposed is to authorize
the regents to contract with private
partits to build the dorms. The con
tractors would be repaid with the rent
from t''e bui'dings and would have
the b'.til lings and land for security.
The i !an is the result rf a lone study
of the dormi'ory problem, and should
meet with approval of all students.

Personal conferences on the Indian

"Despite the handicap placed upon
us by the loss of our armory and all
equipment," Col. Tenrl M. Shaffer of
Ames stated in a talk at the Scabbard

institution of Iowa State on the honor
roll of the war department."
The Iowa State military depart

corps area last year, only a fraction
of a per cent of equaling the honor
school, Minnesota. This corps area
Is complised of seven states In the
Mississippi Valley and Includes seven
teen Institutions with R. O. T. C. units.
The two items which brought down
the rating of the unit, according to
Colonel Shaffer, was the small attend

the enrollment in the advanced mil
itary courses. This year the enroll
ment has increased from 33 to 92.
