(Special to Nebraskan)
C.rinnell, Ia., Jan. 25. (Special)
After losing fom straight valley con
ference basketball games, the Grinnell
College basketball squad is settling;
down with the grim determination to
bieak into the win column next Satur
day night, when the Pioneers meet Ne
braska on the hoce floor.
The game, if such a rough and
tumble affair can be called a game,
with Drake last Saturday night demon
trated the need of an efficient scoring
system for undcr-the-basket use. This
is being given special attention this
week. Coach Elward is also drilling
his men on open court shooting, for
in the averages of the valley squads
Cii'innell ranks noticeably low.
Drake opened up the game last Sat
urday night with the roughest offen
sive seen on a Des Moines floor for
several years, in the opinion of capital
city sport writers, and carried them
throughout the game. None of the
UiiiiWll men were injured, however,
so the entile lineup can be used
against Nebraska.
A considerable change in lineup is
in order for the Scarlet and Black,
so that the scoring machine may be
strengthened. Fearing, who has been
playing center, may be shifted to for
ward, with Denz, at forward so far this
season, moved to center. This leaves
Critchett and Golvin to fight out on
even terms for the other forward
berth. Winter showed up so well in
the Drake fracas that he will probably
start at guard, with Witchill. Captain
Smith will be forced to play the bench
under this arrangement.
If this new scoring machine can
function properly, the Scarlet and
Black followers look for a win next
Saturday, since the Nebraska team has
been defeated worse than Grinnell by
the same teams.

each one electing one member. The

try to co-ordinate the work of the
various operators. This will be
taken up by the b3ard of directors
which will consider the reports of
the clubs and make a recommenda
tion to the association.
About one hundred were present
at the meeting.
