Ohio Uni. 1$ Praised
By Stephen Leacock
"It seems to me porfectly marvel
ous the way public support is elicit
ed at the State University of Ohio,
situated in the City of Columbus,
where an Immense stadium, the gift
of graduates and itizens of Columbus
towers to the Bky with a seating ap
aclty of 65,000 and room for an ad
ditional 10,000," Bald Dr. Stephen Lea
cock, who has Just returned from Cin
cinnati and Columbus, Ohio. In the
former city, he was the special speak
er at the annual teachers' convention.
He was deeply Impressed by the
progressive spirit shown at the Ohio
State University, of which Institu
tion he was certain many McGill
students had never even heard.
"Everybody In Columbus," he stated,
"looks upon himself as a university
man, no matter it ho has never at
tended the college In question." The
McGill Daily.
Washington Freshmen
Show Wide Knowledge
There Is very littlo nbout modern
or ancient personages, places or char
acters that Washington's freshmen do
not know, as revealed by answers to
a questionnaire recently given the
English compostlon class by W. R.
Gundlach.
"Who was William George?" Why,
he Is "Lloyd George's littlo brother,"
ran one of the answers. Equally start
ling is the fact that Mustapha Kemal
Pasha is head of the Japanese navy;
"Oliver Twist' 'is a kind of tobacco
and Mozart a brand of cigars.
Other samples of freshman intelli
gence are: Iago, "Japanese rice;"
Sir Roger De Coverly, "An old fash
ioned square dance;" Becky Sharp, "a
Majority!
