3 and 4 Indiana Game
to Be Feature.

Notre Dame, Iiul., Oct. 28. The
greatest homecoming celebration In
the history of Notre Dnme Is expected
Friday and Saturday, November 3 and
4, when thousands of old students
will be Included lu the crowd of 20,
000 people who will witness the In-fllana-Notre
Dame football game
which will bo the central event of the
celebration.
Preparations have been In progress
for months to care for the alumni of
both Notre Dame and Indiana, who
will witness the game. The seating
capacity of Cartler Field has been in
creased by S.000 for this game and
the biggest crowd In history will
8 warm Into the field. Twelve thou
sand reserved seats placed on sale
last Monday were snapped up lm
luediately. A committee of fifty students, np
po.'nted by the Students' Activity
Committee of the school, has ar
ranged for the reception and enter
tainment of the visitors. Information
booths and vehicles will he provided
for all visitors at the railroad stations.
Itoth campus and city will be decor
ated and prizes will be awarded for
the best bedecked buildings.
The celebration will be formally
opened Friday evening when l.SOo

to the Oliver hotel, where the Indiana
team will be welcomed at a pep meet
ing which will Include 0,000 voices or
ctudonts and city residents. Follow
ing this the party will return to the
University where a medley entertain
ment In Washington Hall will be fol
lowed by a program of boxing bouts
in the gymnasium.
Saturday's demonstration will be
cjiened with a barbecue on the campus
at 10 o'clock In tho luorllng. A pre
liminary football game between South
Bend high and Cathedral high school
of Grand Rapids will precede the
Notro Damo-lndlana bnttlo of bitter
rivals. Four dances will be given In
the evening to complete the celobrn

New Excuse System
On Trial in College
A change has been made In the
system of checking up absences in the
college, in the hope of eliminating
confusion and slowness.
The new method consists of a sys
tem of absence cards. On one side
of the card Is space for the name
of the student, the name of the
courses, the time, the date, the dean's
signature, and the instructors' initials.
On the other is space for the state
ment of the student's excuse and the
signature of some recognized author
ity such as house-mother or' physi
cian. A letter from the dean's office was
..nt to each of the members of the
college faculty with all enclosed sam
ple of the absence cards. In this
communication it was made clear that
