September 4, according to an an
nouncement ,lrom the military depart
ment. The examination will be open
ed to the following classes of eligible:
(a) Warrant officers or enlisted
men hating not less than two years
of service.
(b) Reserve officers or members of
the enlisted reserve corps.

provides for 1771 second lieutenant.
The number of vacancies on Decem
ber 31, 1922, Is expected to be greater
than the number of qualified candi
dates. Appointment of successful
candidates will be given as soon as
practicable after January 1, 1923.
Applications should be forwarded to
the commanding general, 7tli corp3
area, army building. Omaha, and
should contain data as to age, rank
and organization, married or single,
schools attended and colleges or uni
versities from which graduated, twi
letters of recommendation as to the
moral fitness of the candidate.

TOURNEY SOON
More Than 100 Expected to Compete
For Nebraska Title on Uni
versity Courts.
More than 100 tennis players are ex
pected to enroll for the annual tourn
ament of the Nebraska tennis asso
ciation which will be held on the uni
versity courts from August 7 to 12.
The entries must all be in by 10 o'clock
next Monday morning.
Rev. John Galvert, Methodist min
ister of Piattsmouth and Omaha city
champion in 1917 will be the official
referee at the tourney.
First round drawings will be made
immediately following the closing of
the entry books next Monday. First
round play will start soon after the
drawings are completed and will con
tinue almost constantly every day un
til the end of the tournament Satur
day. None of the present state title hold
ers will enter the state meet. Ralph
Powell, last year champion, is now in
Europe and the doubles champions of
last year are Californians. They can
not enter this year since only Ne
braska tennis players are eligible.
Omaha is expected to send a field
of fifteen players and Lincoln will
probably enter a like number. Other
towns which have already had men
entered in the tournament are Seward,
Holdrege, Piattsmouth, Arapahoe, Mil-
ford, Doniphan, Grand Island, Alliance
Norfolk, Walthill, Orleans, Ashland,
North Bend, Fremont and Broken Bow.
This list will be added to before the
books close.
The state tournament is being held
In Lincoln for the first time in years.
Recent completion of a string of
courts on the university grounds, said
to be some ot the best dirt courts in
the entire country, has induced the
state association to bring the cham
pionship play to the capitol city.
