Mlilit K;ilor for tills lt.-nr. KI)WAKI M. HICK ONLY A DIME 1'or only a dime a student, Jark j Best, Nebraska's Grand Old Man, can be sent on a wonderful vacation. For that amount Jimmy may oe so im proved in health that he can come back to Nebraska Mid continue to servo the t'ornhuskers. Every stu dent owes Jimmy many times that amount. For more than a week the "N" club has had boxes (seated at various places on the campus, asking the stu dents to contribute toward a fund for the "Grand Old Man." To date only enough to pay the railroad fare has been obtained and unless the students come across in the final appeal Jim my may be without a vacation. It is not a burden on anyone. It is perfectly voluntary for anyone who wishes to contribute to Jack's vaca tion. No fear that the persons who have been out for athletics will fail to respond to the appeal. It is the persons who do not o out for athletics who are slow to contribute. Yet, for an average contribution of a dime a student, Jimmy can have a won.leri'ul vacation. Jimmy has earned his vacation. There is no doubt of that. For more than thirty years Jimmy has yearly contributed much to the victories of Nibiaska athletic tetams. But for the "rub-downs" which lie tendered to the tired gridiron and track perform ers, more than one victory might have been turned into defeat. NYlnsaka owes Jimmy a vacation and every stu dent should do his part toward that acation. I A AW THE STADIUM STARTS The first siart on the new Memor ial Stadium was made Wednesday when the members of the senior class were given the first opportunity to subscribe toward the structure. Rais ing of the money is the first step and tin1 biggest step toward acquir ing the new atldetie stadium. After the m r.iors have subscribed their share of the new structure, tiie work on the stadium will be started and in all probability several of the footlu.U games uot fall will be played on the new field. Nebraska is very much in need of tiie new stadium. For years the Coi'nhuskor school has tried to bring bigger and stronger teams to Nebras ka to play but the small seating ev pacity has made it difficult to meet expenses on teams brought from far. Not until Nebraska is equipped with ;i structure capable of seating 25,000 people will the larger and better teams be brought to Nebraska. And when tiie larger and better games are secured, that is when Nebraska ath letics will take a big jump and faster and faster Nebraska will be placed in the high place where it belongs. It is impossible to imagine any sen ior who cannot fe 1 that he is obligat ed to the university many times the sum of 25 asked. He is allowed to pay this in three installments and there should not be a member of the f Mluating class who does not sign the pledge. The sum asked is but a small per cent of the amount any student would have to pay as fees on entering most any other school in the country. On that basis alone, and not considering that Nebraska has given him an education for next to nothing, every senior Is obligated to subscribe the $25 as an appreciation and a sign of faith in the Cornhusker school.
