That a vaccina which will rentier peoif'e immune from diithoria has been discovered; and that this vac cine is being used on thousands of school children in New York, were statements made by Dr. W. H. Parks, director of, the research laboratory of the New; York board of health, in his address on "Recent Develop ments in the Control of Infectious Diseases" yesterday at 4:30 in the iology building. The experiments which culminated In the discovery of a successful vac cine were made possible by the use of the Schick test for the presentee of diptheria toxin. At first the work was carried on by the use of guinea pigs and rabbits, but as the experi ments became consistently success ful the tests were made on people. Reduces Death Rate. "In New York city with the aid of this new vaccine, we have cut down the number of deaths from dip theria to one-sixth of what it former ly was, and have reduced the num ber of cases to two-thirds of what it used to be," said Dr. Parks. "This means a great saving of human life in a city the size of New York where thousands of diptheria cases are handled annually. Daily Cardinal FOSTER TO LECTURE TO PHARMACY STUDENTS Prof. Geo. A. Foster of the law college has, arranged a series of lec tures on pharmaceutical jurisprud ence which he is delivering to a class at the college of pharmacy. The lec tures consider law as it is applied to practitioners of pharmacy. Prot. Foster has put in much time and ef fort on the course and greatly de serves the success with which he is meeting.
