slovakia a year ago, he was recog
nized by President Masaryk, decorat
ed by him, and given a refuge in the
royal castle at Prague until a few j
months ago, when he came to Ararlca
hoping to complete an engincerin;
course eventually in one of our un?- i
versitlea.
Young Marek touched the shores of
the United States once before when
he accompanied a transport from Vla
divostok to San Francisco, but his
present visit was by the way of the
Atlantic. His troop ship was wrecked
off the coast of Jaran, where he spent
six months of waiting, traveling
through the country and studying tle
language. Subsequently he visited in
China, India, Egypt and several Euro
pean countries, completeing a swing
around the globe when he re-visited
San Francisco two months ago.
Most of the young veteran's stay in
this country has been spent among
his countrymen, speaking a foreign
tongue, hence he has had but little
opportunity to learn even the rudi
ments of the English language, but
in the course of a year he hopes to
be on frindly terms with our stiango
idioms, although he says he will al
ways have an enemy in our Bolshe
viki English spelling.
Young Marek is registered in the
College of ArtB and Sciences, but it
