This is tho week in which seniors are awarded distinct honors fcr keep scholarship on a sound foundation during their four years of college life. Thirty-three students and graduates were elected to membership in Sigma XI, honorary scientific fraternity, at convocation yesterday and the an nouncements of Fhi Peta Kappa selec tions will be made at a special con vocation later in the week. Sigma Xi is a real achievement, for it combines textbook study with re search work. That thirty-three Ftu dents and graduates received this honor at Nebraska this year, against twenty-five last year, is a fact of some importance. This year thirty of the memberships go to men, as against nineteen out of twenty-five last year. This is to be explained by the f;irt that a larger number of men are engaged in scientific studies than women. Twenty two of the awards this year went to members of the senior class. The Nebraska chapter of Siirnia Xi ; is twf ntv-feur yeara old, having her n j organized in ISft". A number of its charter members, including Profes sors Harbour, Prnner, Swezey and Dr. Candy, are still connected with the University. Sigma Xi lias b-en very active. The organization holds regu lar opr-n nief tings, at which scientific speakers of note are asked to lecture.
