"I didn't see a single girl at the University of Illinois wearing; four- buckle galoshes, but all tho profes sors there are growing mustaches," was the comment of Dr. Harry Hunt ington, Methodist University pastor on the campus life of the students at the University of Illinois at Urbana. Dr. Huntington was present at tho dedication of the new Social Centci K i building across the street from the B campus of the University of Illinois K in Urbana and also attended na tional meeting of the Methodist Unt versity pastors. The Social Center is the first of a group of buildings which are being erected at the cost of about one million dollars for tha students of the University by tha Methodist people of the state. Tho buildings when complete will cover a block and will have accommodations for the recreation of about 2,000 stu dents. Dr. Huntington says that the Social Center building will be followed by a church, a school of religion, a li brary, and a residence for the pas tor. A big open court in the center of the block will be beautified and used for social purposes. The buildins itself is complete In everydetail, Mr. Huntington reports, and contains of fices, social rooms, a Great Hall on the second floor, classrooms, reading rooms, and places for plays, enter tainments, programs and social ar fairs of all sorts. Soc!al Center Building. This building is the first thing of its kind at any of the American Uni versities and follows closely on the order of the ancient colleges in the English Universities. It is a lons building, an dthe fact that it is situ ated Just across the street from the main part of the campus insures its Immediate and full use by the stu dents. The group of buildings, of which the Social Center Hall 13 thj first is called the Wesley Foundation and is for the Methodist students. An other innovation in the buildine is a suite of rooms called the Interna tional suite. This group of rooms is made especially for the foreign stu dents attending the University of Illi nois. Dr. nuntlngton told of the immense growth which the Urbana Institution has had in the last few years. In 1SS0 there were 4S4 students enrolled in the college, while today there arc more than twice that number of per sons on the faculty alone. Ten thou sand students attend the University , of Illinois.
