POLITENESS REPORTER , PLACES STUDENTS UNDER THE TEST Nearly everyone has noticed in either the Omaha or Chicago pp pert tho "Pohtness Column" which telli each day of a reporter who goes aiouud the city trying to find the roiitcKt person. The column tails ot lie rebuffs and discourtesies iiu with us well as the courtesies. .t the end of the day the one whom tho reporter judges the most polite is awarded five dollars. Tile "Rag" thought this would be p. good way to create amusement as well as show up some of the stud':iitii' faults. It has always been maintained that the University students ait po lite, but that there were some :o self-centered to turn over a haul l help the other fellow. The idea whs all right but It didn't seem to ap ply to the students nt Nebraska. Every day for a week a reporter prowled all over the campus, in every building, anywhere students might bo tound. Nearly every type of article was dropped either in the snow, in the mud or in the street, and eac. time it was returned politely. Direc tions were asked from passing stu dents in regard to finding various places on the campus. The report er even asked advice as to where t find a good rooming house and was politely escorted down the. street ana almost immediately installed in a very desirable room. What was the reporter to do? Out of all this confusion of people what one could be said to stand out as more strinkingly polite than nuy otn er? Finally the plan seemed to fall to finding a discourteous person but this worked no better. The idea which had seemed so good and prom ised so much amusement, had to bo given pp. This column even if It didn't come out as planned shows very well that this is a "pretty darn polite school," and we're all mighty glad we tried it anyhow.
