Reports conioj from Wellesley that
they believe the inspired poet was
right when lie sang: "We may live
without friends, wo may live without
books, butvclvilized man cannot livt
wl)' out cooks." In recognition or iliis
belief dispatches from that Maissacnu
setts Institution of naming indicate
that steps have already been taken
to make every Wellesley girl a good
cook.
Kitchenettes and electric cooking
appliances In the dormitories are the
means to the desired result. The odoi
of rich cooking now fills t!:o halls
formerly permeated ; by choice per
fumes, and cries of "Help me baste
the turkey" take the place of the ror
nu'i cries for "Something to !o: some
thing to do. The voice of the dis
tracted cooker has become a famlIc:r
sound In the buildings.
Tower Court, Clarlln and two of
the Quadrangle houses are already
provided with kitchenettes and the
other dormitories are now being fitted
with electric cooking apparatus. The
kitchenettes themselves are models of
neatness and convenience and alum

Cor.ch Schissler took the Huskcr
basketball squad to the Coliseum foi
their second workout on the new tlooi
yesterday afternoon. The men are
rapidly getting used to the new floor
und are showing a great deal mort
speed than has been previously ex
hibited. Every man on the Husker squad
is being given a chance to show what
he can do on a large floor, and Coach
Schissler expects to use a large nuni
ber of men In the games. Three
full teams are working every night
in preparation for the contests with
the Grinnell quintet.
The floor at present is a great deal
more slippery than the men havt
been used to playing upon and is
hampering their speed somewhat, but
tho size offsets this disadvantage to
a great extent.
Spectators will not be allowed on
the floor, under any conditions dur
ing the games. The size of the f.mi
ory made it necessary for a krgt
number of the people to stand up
at tho ends of the court, but this.
has been done away at the Coliseum
owing to the much larger seating
capacity.
The exact timo of the games has
not been definitely announced, but
they will not start until everybodj
has had plenty of time to get out to
tho Coliseum. '
The Iowwa team is scheduled to
arrive some timo Thursday night oi
Friday morning. Grinnell has a strong
team this year and is coming to Lin
coln with the intention of taking the
Huskers scalp home with them. It
will be remembered that the lowans
successfully defeated the Huskers
two years ago and that Nebraska win
have to win these two contests to
even up this old score.
Director Luehring has made exten
sive plans for the opening Friday am
Saturday and wants everybody 01
hand to make It a feature event 1l

DID YOU?
Did you ever effervesce
Along the campus promenades
With your feet hardly touching the
Ground, satisfied with the
World and the sunshine and
Chocolate Malted Milk Bars
And most of all with that
lysterious Being Yourself
And radiating self confidence
Feeling that you could conquer
The world with one blow
Of your inky first,
And suddenly look up to
Meet that disdainful, blase,
World-weary, and entirely .self
Sufficient apology for a glance
From the very professional
Adonis who graces a tub hat
And sideburns and rather
Obvious horn rimmed eye-pieces
And kid gloves and a would-be
Meerschaum and a bulging
Conspicuously new brief case.
And who passes you leaving
"An atmosphere
Of superior bookdom and tobacco
And a sickening realization
Of how small a thing
Is your own wisdom.
Don't you Just feel like
drop In the bucket
Or
A needle in a haystack
And wouldn't you Just
Ixve to crawl away
To some shady retreat
Like the proverbial
Worm?
Wouldn't you just LOVE
To be a lawyer!
