h:, , cans. (1 much trouble over the state and have auaravated tlie
entire liatcrnity situation, it is generally fell that these organization.-
have not helped school s pii it . haw not tried to co-operate with
tin- school authorities and liae aided in creating a rather bolshevistic
attitude among high school students. Moreover, the Tniversily men
generally aiiiee thai members of such oi ganizat ions do not develop
into the b. st kind ot matt-rial for ilu-ir fraternities. From the great
opposition shown to these fraternities all over the state, it is evident
that something mu.-t be fundamentally wrong with their existence.
The fact thai in existing, they are violating a state law brings up the
question as to whether the younger gen ration have the right attitude
an! knowledge and towards Hie obligations ami demands of true
citizenship. When high school students openly work against laws
ot the state, it is time to show Them a new perspective of the loyalty
which they owe to their state and nation.
There is at present even the possibility that such strenuous
imthods will be taken as to have passed the ruling that any I'niver
sity violating this Council rule will lose, its charter at Nebraska. It
is certainly to be Imped that every means will be taken to enforce
the ruling next year and in the future, anil that the whole fraternity
situation will rapidly improve.
lltginning on the approaching Memorial day a small American
Has will be kept on the grave of every American soldier in France.
WHERE'S YOUR SUBSCRIPTION.
Today and tomorrow are 10 be the two banner dan of the
Memorial Iirive your chance to subscribe if you have not yet done
so. The Memorial Iirive is really on. with a will and a purpose ana
every true Nebraskan desires to see it go through right- The slate
is responding to the call and pushing up the financial thermometer.
It is now lime lor the 1'niversity students to show that same spirit.
The campus drive must be a success before we can ask outsiders lo
help us build the gymnasium.
Nebraska is not alone in her idea of a memorial for the soldier
dead. At the University of California, f 1.500.000 was raised in San
Francisco alone before any attempts were made to solicit from the
rest of the state. Wisconsin. Michigan, Minnesota. Kansas and Wash
ington are conducting similar campaigns with fine success. Nebraska
must not fall below the mark. Husker spirit and cooperation are as
great as anywhere in the country, but it has not yet been fully
aroused. Only 600 students have thus far subscribed and although
the average is high, it will not carry the drive over the top yet.
Think it over seriously. We all owe much to our Nebraska Uni
versity and many are glad to make a sacrifice for the gymnasium.
Three hundred committee men will be out after subscriptions. But if
one does not ask you for yours, take H to the Student Activities office.
"Don't -wait to be asked beat them to it!
