Paul J. Peterson of NeliRh, Nebr., a
prominent member of tho Junior class
of the university, died of SpaniKh in
fluenza at 2400 U street Saturday
morning at 11 o'clock.
He had been ill for five days and
was believed to be recovering, when
he suddenly became worse and passed
away very unexpectedly.
The death of Paul Peterson comes
as a great shook to all his friends in
the university. He was a member of
the Alpha Theta Chi fraternity ami
was recently initiated into Sigma
Delta Chi. Journalistic fraternity.
Peterson was very active in dra
matic work at the university, and wa
a member of the Cornhnsker start last
year. He was also a candidate for the
presidency of the Junior class this
semester and was an acting sergeant
in the S. A. T. C. battalion.
Paul Peterson had a wid circle of
friends at the university and was held
fn high esteem by all the faculty and
students. His ideals were the best
and he was loved by all who knew him.
His friends mourn the loss of a true
comrade and a noble young man.

Miss Miriam Dunn was married to
Lieut. Ronald Conkling at the home of
the bride's parents at Tekamah, Nebr.,
Oct. 9. Both the bride and groom are
former University of Nebraska stu
dents. Mrs. Conklin being a member of
Alpha Phi and Lieut. Conklin a mem
ber of Alpha Tau Omega. The couple
are located now at Camp Dick, Dallas,
Texas, where Lieut. Conklin is tak
ing a course of training at the avia
tion camp.

probability another week may elapse
before school is again in progress.
Medical authorities of the S. A. T.
C. diverted their attentions to innoc
ulatlons of all men Saturday afternoon
and later were busily engaged in tak
ing care of those for whom the
"shots" proved too strong. Sore arms
and muscles were not uncommon, but
nevertheless a number from each com
pany answered the improvised sick
call at 5 o'clock, and were taken to
the infirmary. With the possibility
of an increasing sick list, S. A. T. C.
men regarded the delay in the open
ing of school with indifference.

Many applicants for entrance into
officers' training camps are today on
the anxious seat waiting to hear the
announcement of the names of the se
lected men. Applications for Infantry,
artillery and machine gun branches
were closed Saturday noon. Of all
those applying for these branches of
the service, about eighty-five were
called to report to Captain E. J. Mac
Ivor for personal conference Saturday
afternoon.
At these conferences questions were
put to the men regarding their educa
tional qualifications, business exper
ience and other miscellaneous ques-
