The citizens' committee in charge of
campus addition was requested to
clvar 50 feet off the north end of lots

government for the Unserve Oflicers'

Palladian Literary society will pre
sent the play. "The Efficiency of Mrs.
Boderick" at the regular weekly meet
ing in Palladian hall this evening. The
play is a part of the regular series of
programs which the society gives each
year.

ILLUSTRATIONS ON
EXHIBITION AT THE
ART GALLERY NOW
An exhibition of original illustra
tions, the work of Frank Walter Tay
lor, who is one of the foremost illus
trators in the United States, is now
in the art gallery. This exhibition in
cludes some of the original illustra
tions done for the "Iron Woman,"
which appeared several years ago in
Haper's, a number of construction
scenes about New York City and some
sketches made in Europe.
The work is done in charcoal and
is a good example of the various ef
fects which may be obtained from the
same medium. The illustrations that
he has made for "The Iron Woman"
show a sympathetic Insight into the
aim and purpose of the author. They
are in the opinion of critics what il
lustrations should be a real help to
the author in presenting the interpre
tation of the characters.
An exhibition of original illustra
tions is an unusual opportunity for the

The October, 191H. issue el' the
Midwest Quarterly, just received
from the publishers, contains several
articles which address themselves
largely to the undergraduate student
public. The number was delayed by
the absence of Prof. P. H. Frye, who,
up to the time of his departure, was
at the head of the editorial staff.
Charles Sumner Allen, known to
almost everyone connected with the
University of Nebraska, and a mem
ber of the advistory board of The
Quarterly, contributes an article of
general interest on "The Over-social
Functions of the University." L. B.
Pillsbury. '!'. who is today one of
the best known American psychol
ogists, has an article entitled, "Some
Aspects of Abnormal Psychology."
The other articles are "The Phil
osophy of Tragedy." by Pxf. H. B.
Alexander of the department of phil
osophy; "Made in Germany." by Ran
dolph S. Paul, New York city; "The
Chinese Colonics." by Minnie T. Eng
land, assistant professor of econom
ics, and "A Pragmatic Interpretation
of the History of Philosophy." by
Prof. Horace M. Kalen of the Univer
sity of Wisconsin.
University of Iowa. The University
of Iowa cadet regiment is to use the
money surplus obtained from the mili
tary ball recently held to purchase a
regimental standard of silk with the
