The popularity of the work, the ser
ious Intention of many of the Uni
versity students to enter journalism,
the . inadequacy cf tho courses, has
led to a widespread demand for a
strengthening of the work. The Ne
braska state press association last fall
unanimously passed a resolution de
manding a Journalism college, and
many of the editors of the state, in
cluding such powerful ones as Har

Herald; Victor Rosewater of the Om
aha Bee; Norrls Huse of the Norfolk
News; Ross Hammond of the Fremont
Tribune; and Edgar ' Howard of the
Columbus Telegram.
This activity of the newspaper men,
augmented by a definite campaign for
more adequate recognition of the
work by Sigma Delta Chi and Theta
Sigma Phi, the journalism fraternities
and sorority on the campus, led to the
appointment of the senate committee
which' reported adversely to the col
lege, but which was followed by the
faculty expression in favor of broaden
ing the courses.
