semester, $1.
Entered at the postoffice at Lincoln, Nebraska, as second class
mall matter under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1879.
The Daily Nebraskan subscription campaign starts Monday The
paper will be better than ever next semester, and the subscription list
of the "best University daily in the country' should correspond to its
reputation.
There is Just one 'reminder," now that the social season is at its
height, don't forget the chaperones. Very few people enjoy chaperon
ing a dancing party under ordinary conditions. They must look their
best, smile their best, and grace the uncomfortable seats around the
hall while the young people who are enjoying their kindness, flit around
obviously unconscious of their existence. A few minutes spent help
ing a chaperone should be a pleasure and it is a courtesy that would ho
well to be cultivated.
Rabindranath Tagore, Indian poet, teacher and philosopher, will
be in Lincoln Monday, on his return to his native country. Sir Rabin
dranath who received the Nobel prize for his poetry in 1913, will speak
on "The Cult of a New Nationalism," at the Oliver theatre, Monday
evening. There are a very few desirable seats left and those who do
not want to miss the opportunity to hear the greatest living poet should
not neglect to get their seats reserved today.
Football Captains For 1917
The striped effect on U. hall is about one year behind the times,
according to the dictates of Dame Fashion.
The athletic field has been flooded and the skating is fine. The
exercise and relaxation that everyone needs after a day of hard work
is within reach of everyone, and they should take advantage of the
opportunity to indulge in one of the healthiest and most popular of
American sports.

POTATO MARKET
NEWS SERVICE
PROVES POPULAR
If continued praise is an Index of
"usefulness, the potato market news
service furnished by the agricultural
extension service of the University of
Nebraska in co-operation with the
United States department of agricul
ture and county agents In western
Nebraska was in no small way bene
ficial to farmers of the state; Good
words for the service continue to reach
the extension service every day.
Not the least of recent Indorsements
was the passage of resolutions by the
farmers' congress at Omaha approving
the potato market news service and
urging that a similar service be estab
lished for hay producers next year
The resolution follows: "We endorse
and desire to have continued the mar
ket news service established by the
agricultural extension service and th!
United States department of agricul
ture for furnishing the potato grow
ers of western Nebraska with daily
and authentic market values on pota
toes. This service the past season
profited the western Nebraska farm-'
ers a quarter million dollars by nar
rowing the margin between the price
paid to the producer and cost to the
consumer. We desire to have a simi
lar market news service established
for hay and other farm products as
rapidly as possible."
This Is the second expression it
approval from a large convention, the
first being given hy the cooperative
elevator and live stock association.
