On the firing line at the rifle gal
lery in the basement of the Mechan
ical Engineering hall Thursday, cor
porals in the University cadet bat
talions fired shot after shot at the
big black bullseyes. Sometimes they
hit the bullseyes, sometimes they did
not, but most of the shots neared
the mark.
"Cease firing," shouted Lieut. C.
H. Gribble as he switched on the
range lights and went to the targets
to pick up a shee: which bad fallen.
"You men will have to hurry along
as it is twenty-five minutes to 6."
shouted Sergeant Allen, assistant com
mandant to the men on the firing
line.
"Shall we fire ahead, then?" said
a prone cadet.
"You don't shoot in war when the
command 'cease firing' is given, so
hold your horses," replied the officer.
Therefore, when Lieutenant Gribble
had obtained the sheet, the lights
were turned down again and at the
command "resume" firing, the crack
of rifles was again under way. Each
cadet shot twenty times, five times
at each of four targets. The bullets
ttsed were of .22 caliber, shot in a
special bore Springfield .

Prof. Sarka Hrbkova gave a very
interesting, illustrated address on
"Home Life in Slavic Lands" to the
Home Economics club. The pictures
showed some of the beautiful scen

ple, their homes, industry, and amuse- J
ments. In the cities there is a pub
lic market to buy poultry, eggs, etc.
The price is always raised above
actual value as the women expect
one to haggle about the price, the
speaker said. On Palm Sunday the
people wear the pussy willows which
are the first harbingers of spring,
she said.
