RELIGION
If religion means anything, it moans man at his best. He is at
his best, not in achievement but his endeavors. Achi-v'ineiits are
finite. Endeavors are infinite. They are divine. The best defini
tion of religion I knov. is "An endeavor to get into right relations
with reality." You may call that reality God, Force or Matter, or

which he feels touches his at every point. From childhood to old
age the story repeats itself of entrances into higher life and de-p r

live for truth, power to preserve the integrity of the soul in spite
of every appeal to passion and the claim of every paltry vanity.
To endeavor to grow, to strive to find the higher reaches of the
spirit, to be conscious of the possibilities of life, is religion.

lates with the result that after some
small mental exercise he has given to
the world the following working the
ory: There are three hundred thou
sand leaves on each tree; the leaves
are beginning to fall to such an extent
that it is safe to assume that there
are at least three billion of them blow
ing about on the campus; if forty uieu
were set to work to gather the leaves
at a rate of one each per second, it
would take one thousand hours each
to finish the. job. Therefore, in his
conclusion from the. premises, if the
leaves were stacked one on top of the
other, the pile would be over five

matis personae of the production.
