The Daily Nebraskan recently sent
out que'stionaires to between eighty
and ninety schools of the country,
seeking their experience with the Sin
gle Tax and the Student Union. The
manner in which the questions were
answered has been of great assistance
to us in our efforts to secure the
adoption of these measures here.

"THE RAPE OF THE LOCK"
BY BRY80N ET AL.
When a seemingly bright, beautiful
young man of twenty years, more or
less, locks his keys in his desk and,
aided by one lone fellow worker, has
to spend two perfectly good hours of
this gorgeous springtime unscrewiffg
the desk top off to get them, the world
becomes dark and gloomy, and he
knows that "a fellow is always having
hard luck, anyway."
"Al" Bryson was the leading man
in this one-act tragedy, and Virgil
Haggart was "the ever present aid in
time of trouble."
It is rumored that "Al" has strung
the keys on a pink baby ribbon and
has draped them over the top of his
desk as a reminder of the glories of
the past.

failure, due entirely to the fact that. . evenine at
it is made voluntary. Washington uni-1 ? Huntep superintend.
versity had a tax of $5 from 1912 to.
1914. The plan ,was then abandoned.
In referring to the fact that payment
was not compulsory, the editor of j
Student Life says, "This was one of
the faults of the plan."
We believe that these instances go
to prove our prevails contention that
the Single Tax will lose many of its
good points if it is made voluntary.
The reduction of the price of the var
ious activities to make a club rate
cannot be successful, for not enough
will volunteer to make the club price
attractive.
But more than this, the Tax will
not secure Interest in activities among
those who would otherwise fee back
ward, taking advantage of he educa
tional opportunities in this line. The
feature of the system that has won it
many friends on the faculty is the
fact that it will create this interest
among those who believe that the
classroom is their only field of actlv
v -while obtaining an education. Even
California, which reports in glowing
Yont will give a book review of her
doctor's thesis "Status and Value of
Music in Education."
Don Gallagher announces that he
will take a baseball team composed
of twelve university students on a
tour of Nebraska- immediately after
school is out and wishes to Inform all
students who wish to try out for the
team to call him at B-1110 or see
him personally. The club will play
Sunday games away from Lincoln un
til the present term ends.
